Well that was a limp noodle of a movie, even compared to the last one. There's exactly one creative, engaging scare - a scene involving a knife that evokes Hitchcock's "bomb under the table" - but I wouldn't recommend a comedy with one laugh, and I don't recommend a horror flick with one scare. Other than that it's just this series' usual mix of sudden bumps and things whooshing past the camera and its usual orgy-of-nonsense ending subbing in for anything actually interesting.

If you're fans of the series, you'll be a fan of this one. It's certainly not the scariest of the bunch, but it is one of the more fun entries, and certainly does its part of advancing the mythology. However, you can't help but feel this one was just a bit of a setup for a fifth installment, which is never a good feeling in an era in which movie tickets are $14 a pop.

4 is definitely a weaker entry in this franchise. It seems like they're leaning much heavier on humans and cults, which I guess would be cool, if it felt like it was going anywhere interesting. I can only see it going downhill. This entry also has problems rising from it being so goddamn slow. The Kinect scenes are way less interesting than the fan scenes from the last ones.

This is the only film in the Paranormal Activity series that falls short as it lacks creativity and the suspense of the previous films, while its a good film its no match for those.

I wish the writers would use their obvious talent for writing convincing and funny dialogue for something other than a shitty extension to a dead franchise.

each installment gets more boring. nothing happens. characters also become more unbelievable-- spooky stuff's going on so they set up cameras but only for the first night do they double check all these cameras they set up? handwaved by not being able to "login to see them"? cmon. i amused myself by becoming overly excited for the family house cat to appear in a shot. that cat had fairly big testicles.

How are they still going with the absolute same plot? I can't believe people haven't figured it out yet. Now I haven't seen the third one but that doesn't seem to be a necessity as this one plays out almost exactly the same as the second one; I mean, there is no substance at all. Like the others though, there were some clever scenes and smart use of scenery and camera but technical prowess behind the camera does not a movie make! You need plot, drama and suspense and... just something! Anything!

With an ending that rivals that of "The Devil Inside", PA4 falls firmly into place between 3, a terrible film, and 2, one of the worst films I've ever seen. The shark is officially jumped.

The last 30 seconds provide some true horror and chills but it’s a 1,5 hour slog ‘til there. Also the true villain of the movie is the family’s mother. I understand her reluctancy to take talks of ghosts seriously but she should have been at least alerted of her children’s mental well-being when they report seeing and hearing things. But nah. She rather spends her time shopping, blabbing on the phone and watching vlogs. She seems to think her family is a nuisance to her hobbies.

Top badass moment? The 'we need something moving in this long, static scene to prove it's not a photo' green frog in the bedroom. (What even is it, some sort of room humidifier?) Whatever, it was certainly less entertaining than PA2's pool cleaner and PA3's bubble ‘thing’ in the tank. I enjoyed the first 3 films, but this one's as scary as a visit to Lidl. As the rest of it was the same as the others, this rather devalues it a bit. 1 cat (a lovely Ginger Tom), no chainsaws or decapitations.

Enjoyable to a fault. The fourth entry toys with some interesting camerawork and scare attempts. It sadly never goes all the way with any of it. It may prove a decently grim distraction for a little while. Granted one you won't remember two days later.

Same rehashed shit yet again. It follows the same tired formula of the lowest horror stories: absolutely random, physically impossible shit like electronics turning on by themselves, objects falling from shelves, etc until things decide to get serious. You can't help but wonder, don't those ghosts have anything better to do? What's their objective, their limitations, their modus operandi? The author hasn't thought that out. The conclusion is so bad I found myself literally laughing out loud.

It's more normal than paranormal. This film was quite a bore. I had to keep myself from falling asleep several times. It also has an annoying amount of advertising within the film "Hey, want to see something cool the XBOX KINECT does?" That was just one of the many blatant advertisements written into the script. Yuck...

Boring and the ending sucks. Some of the bits with moving the laptop around and the kinect sensor are okay but this sequel drags things out even more, especially when you know the gimmick. Not enough happens and when the payoff is so weak like in this one it's not worth anyone's time. Note to self: this series is dead and buried.

These films are all so samey and yet I still kinda dig all of them. You know what you're gonna get and it's a decent way to spend 80 to 90 minutes of your time. Also, man does this get uncomfortably salacious sometimes.

Somehow managing to top Paranormal Activity 3 in every department in awfulness, this new movie is scrapping the bottom of the barrel. With no reason to care about any of the characters, it is never frightening. All the scares have been seen before and are incredibly predictable in this fourth outing.

These films seem to have lost the logic. You watch the film through the cameras they set up, they start to see some "unexplainable" things happen on the cameras when they look back, then suddenly they stop looking back at the footage...Even after these "unexplainable" events get much worse....That makes absolutely no sense at all. Even more confusing is the fact 3 times Katie has been recorded committing murder and has abducted a child but can be admitted to hospital for 3 weeks without arrest?

This movie is a jump-scare cookie cutter film like all the others...except for one ray of light. A rose in a world of wheat. Something essential to all life on Earth: Ben. This gentleman is the true budget. This actor had to wear a back brace for the filming of the last half of this movie because the strain of carrying it was almost too much. PA 4 itself receives somewhere around 50. Ben added on the extra 24. And Alex.....Alex.

The first two sequels were unnecessary, but this is just getting ridiculous. This one has only very small ties to the ongoing story. It was a definite step down from the already not-great sequels. It wasn't scary at all, and all the scenes between the 'scares' were pretty damn boring. It's beyond formulaic now - we know exactly how it's all going to play out. It's just an excuse to keep the franchise going. Also, the product placement was insanely obnoxious.

This must be a studio's dream, extremely low budget, extremely low effort, with an extremely large number of geniuses who go to the theater and give these people their money. Not scary, not interesting. They're not even trying anymore.

This series is an obvious money-grab, but I'm entertained enough to keep renting from the Redbox. I did not find it boring and I liked how one of the characters seemed to not be hopelessly helpless for once. By now I am used to the formula so they do not much frighten me though. My only gripe is that it did not reveal more about the covenant. Also, The Shining homeage!

While I liked the new narrative approach--giving the camera to the teenager rather than the father figure--I couldn't help but be let down. The (actually good) third film set up some interesting themes and finally established a coherent mythology; although this film didn't ignore those things, it had to push all that crap aside in order to introduce a new family. Essentially we got the old PA beat, but none of the new jazz. (why do I keep watching these?)

God, what a boring piece of crap. I'm no fan of the first three Paranormal Activity films, but they at least kept my attention throughout. This one is just a mess, with virtually nothing of interest happening until the very end, at which point everything happens in about 3 minutes. There's a couple of decent effects with the Kinect, but even that gets overused before all is said and done. Whether you like these movies or not, avoid this.

Ugh, teen dialogue. In all its forms, an abortion. Okay, maybe there's a decent line or two. As always, at times, the justification for carrying or having a camera EVERYWHERE becomes wonky as all hell, even 10 minutes into the flick. We all know the format here, daytime safe, night-time scary, creepy little boy at the center of it all. I pay attention only to attempt to extrapolate the continuation of the story, but that's starting to not cut it anymore. But since I'm a sissy the scares worked.

It plays almost as a remake of the second one, with lousy and dull attempts of making scares with Skype, Kinect dots and lazy editing bumps. The creepy kid works -- he acts like an adult --, but Joost and Schulman can't provide more than a couple of nice horror scenes -- there is one with a flying knife and the naive homage to The Shining. The Blair Witch-like finale is just shameful. PA has lost its track in this fourth chapter.
