An animated short that follows the story of a lonely young man in mid-century New York City, whose destiny takes an unexpected turn after a chance meeting with a beautiful woman on his morning commute. Convinced the girl of his dreams is gone forever, he gets a second chance when he spots her in a skyscraper window across the avenue from his office. With only his heart, imagination and a stack of papers to get her attention, his efforts are no match for what the fates have in store for him. (imdb)

Am I alone in thinking this was painfully mediocre and cliche?

Yes, TrixRabbi, you are. Well, it is pretty cliche, but it's sweet and pretty enough to make up for it.

As for the narrative: Whatever. But as for the visuals: WOW. Holy shit do I wish Disney would do a full-length classic style Disney fairy tale movie in this style. I would eat that shit up like you wouldn't believe.

Sickeningly sweet, in the way that Disney has perfected over the years. It's a charming little love story and the animation is a style that I hope Disney returns to in the future. It's a blend of their signature hand-drawn style with a 3D computer graphic flair that grabs hold of the senses. The setting and time period add to the appeal and the music enhances the viewing experience as well. It's a simple little thing that's good for the heart.

It's charming, but the real marvel is the bizarre meld of 2D and 3D animation. It really is incredible, and I hope to see some full-length animated features in the future done with this program. Score is not a grade.

My heart bleeds with a thousand paper cuts. Wow, what a charming and sweet short animated film. Paperman is what Disney does best. They take a simple idea and make some magic out of it...

Normally this kind of cutesy thing works for me in shorts like this, but not here. I can't really put my finger on why but it feels to simple and unearned.

This is what I want for the future of animation. Just stellar, masterfully combining 2D and CG 3D animation, and proving that its combo has a lot of potential. Moreover, not only is it visually breathtakingly beautiful to look at, being definitely its biggest strength, the story itself is cute, sweet, romantic, and funny. What more could you ask for?

Incredibly cute, and certainly the type of short they should make more of. It's sad when the animated short before the feature is much better than the feature itself.

Although it seems that it's not cool to admit that Disney produced something quite charming and visually appealing, I have to suspend my otherwise art-house sensibility and say that I am a sucker for a sweet and well crafted animation.

The animation is really beautiful, and it's a sweet story. But the airplanes gaining magic powers was kind of cop out. You wouldn't be remiss in watching this, but I'd recommend 2008's similarly-themed Signs instead.

Rather hollow narrative (whatever, it's a Pixar short film) and gorgeous visuals. The dude looks like Jim Halpert.

As for the story and the characters (if you can even call a couple of cute faces characters), this is a very pedestrian student work. This is what an average person would come up with when asked to make a short film. Or perhaps it could be generated by a computer algorithm. But then comes the heavy artillery of disney visual technologies (artistry would not be the right word anymore) and a "masterpiece" is ready. I definitely say NO to this kind of animation.

Mostly just fluff to go with the nice looking animation, but nothing terribly offensive that I could really hate it. Made me kinda wish more studios would put out animation like this, especially when backed by something with substance.

Some fairly beautiful animation, particularly with use of light makes this well worth watching, despite a story that doesn't live up to it at times.
