Suyambu Lingam (Kamal Haasan), a cable TV operator in the small mountainous village of Papanasam, spends his time watching every movie he can get his hands on & derives his world knowledge from them. I saw the Hindi adaptation Drishyam (2015) a few months ago and was not impressed with how they handled that one. The Tamil remake Papanasam (2015) with Kamal Haasan in the lead has the sensibilities to make the story work. The length is the only real issue lasting almost 3 hours, but they use a lot of the time effectively getting to know the family before the tragedy begins. The rest of the story and how it unfolds carries the rest of this captivating script with impressive acting to boot.
