A simple and effective little drama with a simple and effective performance by Mr. Timberlake.

Good drama starring Justin Timberlake, but it was a bit predictable.

Pleasant throwback to star-driven dramas of yesteryear, and thankfully Timberlake is definitely up for the challenge as anchor; while it’s never quite believable that he served hard time, he proves to have almost as good a line in brooding inscrutability as an Eastwood. Well matched by charming scene-stealer Allen, this works best when charting their growing bond, and makes up for a last act cluttered by far too many crises, becoming uncertain and unfocused before wrapping things up too neatly.

Feel-good drama with only the slightest dusting of grit. The gender identity stuff is handled with warmth and a lightness of touch that makes for an enjoyable lazy weekend watch.

Good despite not taking many risks. The kid and Justin Timberlake both are pretty good, but Juno Temple can't hide her British accent. The movie hits the right emotional notes.
