Would couple extremely well with Frankenstein's Army. Both films feel more immersive than an image on a screen. There's classy Nazi mutant movies like X-Men: First Class (get it? classy - First Class? No?) and there's schlocky Nazi mutant movies like Planet Terror, Dead Snow, Iron Sky, Shock Waves, the dream sequence from An American Werewolf in London, etc. This one plays like someone read the script for Werewolf Women of the SS and deliberately played it all straight.

I dunno, I suppose the niche Nazi Zombie genre has a built-in set of expectations and the only one this satisfied was that it had Nazis, some of whom were also zombies. This kind of film needs to go completely nuts and unapologetic - here's a plot I came up with while watching: Nazi zombies quote Mein Kampf and only eat the brains of the Aryan race because the blood is 'pure'. Throw in some swastika shurikens and out-for-revenge concentration camp escapees and we'll have a film I'd revisit.

I might not be seeing the same movie as so many of these positive reviews, because personally, I was marketed a nazi zombies movie and got a nazi movie with a few zombies. I shouldn't judge it for that, I suppose, but when it comes down to it, Overlord is an exceedingly average WWII movie, and an even worse zombie movie. It's got some okay acting, but in between cliched story beats, I can't find much worth seeing.

I got exactly what I was wanting with this one. It's a big budget WW2 horror movie, heavy on the war. Essentially like a Wolfenstein adaptation. The effects are good, the story is bare, but I didn't really care about the story a whole lot. If your into the mutated offspring of a horror movie and a war movie, then pickings are slim, and you shouldn't be choosy enough to turn your nose up at this fun little guy.

I really wanted to like this & I thought I would after the excellent opening scene. But after they land in France, it just becomes just another clichéd war film complete with stock characters such the mouthy soldier, the insufferable, holier than thou private, and the tough as nails CO, which made it hard to care for them. It also falters on the horror side as it fails to expand upon Nazi experimentation as it was arguably the most interesting part of the film. Just feels like wasted potential.

So ... it's worth noting that the American armed forces were not integrated during WWII. This isn't something that should be held against the film, nor did it impact by enjoyment of it, but it's a good indication of the tone. This is pulpy stuff with little to no interest in reality. That said, man this was fun ... it's like a John Carpenter film that turns into a Stuart Gordon film in the last third.

At last social justice warriors have a big budget Nazi zombie movie to call their own! In addition to the required diversity, today's progressives can enjoy a scene condemning torture (white Americans are violent!) even though the person being tortured is a Nazi rapist & it's a ticking bomb scenario! The film also offers a hero who's always willing to disobey orders & sacrifice the outcome of WW2 to help 1 person. The film ends w/ a reminder that the US can't be trusted w/ deadly weapons either.

occupies a strange space where it's too expensive to work as a satisfactory B-movie — the opening scene sets audience expectations too high — but it's too cheap for a film that needs to see far more Nazis slaughtered on-screen. the characters are also too flat and boring for a movie that defaults to setting half of its scenes in an attic to cut costs. there's some fun stuff, but it's a misfire from the ground up.

Somewhat underwhelmed. I thought there'd be more zombie action and I thought the actual horror elements and attempts at comedy felt stale. The characters aren't always interesting either. Still, it's well acted and I do think what action and bloodiness is in there is very entertaining. The enemy's motivations are perhaps the most horrific aspect of the movie when you sit down and think about it. Could have been more, but it mostly works and I never got bored.

Definitely wasn't what I expected, but then again, I didn't really know what to expect...I'll admit I'm a sucker for zombie shit, but they're more or less a background drop to a different movie. It's more slow and suspenseful, and given its war centric setting, it all works. The movie certainly has its flaws and I feel a little empty with the undead feeling like a subplot. Then again, I'm 19, and I don't think this was made for the mindless action group like most my age.

I would have loved this film as a 14 year old back in the 90's, but now it just seems redundant, tired and clichéd. Maybe I've just watched too many horror films. Maybe I'm just old. Is this what it means to have a mid life crisis.....no longer enjoying the things you did as a teenager? Maybe. Or maybe it's just an average film.

A potential cult classic in the making. Overlord didn't go as far as I expected into over the top schlock, read; could have been cheesier for my liking. Probably should have been marketed as a straight up WWII movie and let the sci-fi horror elements be a fun twist a la the mid-point twist of From Dusk Til Dawn

This war movie is raw, brutal and well made. It immediately jumps into the action and was suspenseful and exciting. Charismatic characters and good action. The action was engaging and exciting. The acting performances were convincing. I especially liked Jovan Adepo and the beautiful Mathilde Ollivier. Excellent music, film quality, SFX and CGI. It also had whacky, unexpected and unnecessary horror elements and imagery. A flawed premise, but worth watching. Definitely not for the squeamish.

The From Dusk Till Dawn of WWII movies, with the shift in direction midway though here disturbing your experience even more: The opening half-hour or so (as clichéd as it is) works perfectly to draw you in to a tense, tight war movie, but the zombie craziness in the second half doesn’t do enough to make this a truly memorable experience. Far from a bad film, it’s just missing that extra something to make it a keeper.

I mean what's worse than Nazis? It's probably zombie Nazis. While the high of the film is in its opening moments, the blending of two genres is done with a great amount of enthusiasm and pulp. This isn't a masterpiece but this modest budgeted genre-flick is what we need more of.

This is basically Wolfenstein: The Movie. A pretty well-made war film that delves maybe a little too deep into the grotesque at times. It doesn't try to be more than a fun B movie, but its sympathetic characters and competent direction elevate it above shlockier fare like Frankenstein's Army.

Was a fun premise, but the effects were underwhelming, mutations never reached as far as one would expect. Villains were bumbling incompetents and some of the characters like the commander were a bit insufferable. A personal pet peeve is the historical revisionism, I know, a weird thing to question in a zombie movie, but even a line or two to explain why the historically discriminated against coloured people weren't segregated would have been enough. I won't call it woke, just lazy.

Starts off pretty promising, feeling like a Call of Duty movie adaptation or extended cut scene but in a good way. For some reason though, it decides the stakes of saving a ton of lives is just not enough and introduces tired, Hollywood-bullshit stakes and drama that drags the movie down into tired, conventional territory and the last act is mostly a big yawn. Liked Wyatt Russell in this but not sure if that's just because I love him so much from Everybody Wants Some!!.

Too stupid to take seriously and too boring to take lightly. It's not self-aware in the slightest and it takes itself way too seriously, but it's also too dumb and shlocky to pull any of it off. Not a single good new idea is brought to the screen, and I struggle to recall even a bad new idea that this movie introduced. It's like a watery smoothie of Dead Snow, Iron Sky, and some generic war movie that I'll never see. Drab from the first minute to the last.

Good Wolfenstein-esque adaptation. I'm glad the monster viewings were limited, though the serum got too magical. Chloe did everything except not even a typical kiss for the strong love interest? Is it because he's black? Is that too much to ask for after they obviously didn't care about accuracy re: integration? Headshots left and right for Americans, Stormtrooper shooting for Nazi elite units. Fav scene: jumping over Normandy was a lot scarier than anything else in the rest of the film.

The Cloverfield connection (Cloverlord?) may have given this something interesting to be anchored with. The long pseudo one shot sequences were neat. The tone felt very inconsistent for the rest, why is regular war sanitized here when it in reality is easily as gruesome as the fantastic tar zombie stuff? Long pauses to hide out in a house undermine the supposed urgency. Most horrible elements aren't built upon- like that talking head...
