Stephen Chow plays an "insane" person who is not afraid of anything. He also appears to be parodying Leon (the professional). Carrying his trusty plant and bag of cling wrap and chocolates he helps a young girl to rid her building of a couple mean ghosts. (imdb)

Coming out at the tail end of Chow's most prolific period, "Out of The Dark" sees him as a little too comfortable with himself, almost just going through the motions. But for a guy who pumped out thirty six movies in six years, it's hard to imagine he wasn't getting worn out, and keeping the laughs even this plentiful is an achievement worthy of appreciation.

Quickie comment-IMHO the score is really up to the watcher. Reason-chaotic plot, there IS a story but it's basically nonsensical. There is a definite Leon parody (the female lead dresses as Natalie Portman in addition to Chow's look - it's there but quickly forgotten). In short acting, special effects adequate for the who cares production style. If you dislike anarchic semi- senseless film you won't like this IMO. Mildly amusing, enough to keep you watching. Chow's done better.

There's some funny stuff here but at the beginning of the film and Chow seemed to be doing different things. By the midpoint, the movie hit its stride but quickly runs out of steam during the final third of the film.
