Passes the time. Too much going on and doesn't really have much of a purpose other than it's message at the end which has been said a million times before. Luckily this movie has a crapload of likable actors thus saving it from the total shit that it was. Why does Emily Mortimer get cheated on in every movie I see her in? she seems pretty chill for a 40 year old sloot

My Bitch Sisters, really. The movie isn't as good as it could be, if only because every character other than Rudd is a vapid, irritating bore. But Rudd is really terrific, and there are a handful of strong scenes: Rudd and Adam Scott critiquing women in a cafe is especially hilarious. Other highlights include: everything with the dog, TJ Miller, and Rudd's semi-climactic nice-guy blow-up. Rarely has an angry profanity-laced rant felt more cathartic in a dumb comedy such as this. Wonderful cast.

I'm on record saying that we should all be so lucky to live our lives like Ned. He's such an instantly-loveable character, the movie just floats along with such fluidity simply based on him being on screen. It has all the right elements for this type of movie - the trio of sisters, the ex-girlfriend, the dog, the nephew - with each element really complimenting the others. I love the casting all around, and this was just one of those movies that gives you the warm fuzzies. Yup. The warm fuzzies.

My Thoughts: "A funny comedy. Paul Rudd is a favorite of mine and I think he does well in roles like these. I happen to have a brother that is very similar to his character Ned. There are three girls and a boy in my family. So it was a bit surreal seeing how similar my family was compared to the films. Chaos, dysfunction, fights, and in the end, love. A film to watch with your siblings, not the kids."

Paul Rudd is so amiable here that anyone who claims to be a slight fan of his as a bonafide actor can do no wrong with "Our Idiot Brother." This is not, however, bust-a-gut laughter. This is earnest, witty filmmaking and a charming little examination on complicated family relationships with dashes of humor sprinkled throughout. In other words: "Knocked Up," "Anchorman," and "I Love You, Man" this is NOT.

This movie had so much potential. However in the end the writers take the easy way out and side-step any meaningful examination of modern urban life. The ending offers nothing except the sisters getting back on the same hamster wheel, while the idiot brother magically bumps into exactly the right person at exactly the right time, the end. Lazy, lazy writing -- a true letdown considering the quality of the actors. Also note that this is not a comedy, it is a drama. Do not expect to laugh at all.

You could almost call it cheap and cliché, if it weren't so fucking honest. And just so totally for me. Love this movie. In this one Paul Rudd is the most substantial do-gooder I have ever seen in a movie of this light-heartedness. I love it. Also: How hot is Elizabeth Banks in this? :o

The script is pretty ho-hum, but man, what a murderers' row of fantastic comedic actors. They elevate the material. I wish we could have seen more of Adam Scott, but hey, Parks & Rec is back soon, so whatevs. I had to roll my eyes when they try to pretend that Emily Mortimer isn't extremely attractive.

The problem with having the word "idiot" not only in the title, but also being the descriptor for the primary character is that it begs the question, "how big of an idiot can this guy be before it becomes unbelievable and/or makes the audience unsympathetic to his idiocy?" This film walks that line. Paul Rudd is infinitely likable, but the character he portrays feels thinkly drawn and seems more like a story plot device rather than a real character.

I like Paul Rudd, I mean, who doesn't? But the script is highly under-constructed and knows way to well how all problems are solved. Thats probably an aspect, this genre is under gernal suspicion, but this is truly the prototyp of "just another indie-flick". And, just out of curiosity: Why is everyone so obsessed with Zooey Deschanel these days?!

It's a veritable all-star cast of the quirky indie comedy genre. The acoustic guitar is there, but I think they forgot their wooden xylophone. Starring the typical outsider who doesn't fit in anywhere, and yet has life more figured out than anyone around him. Watch as he drops some wisdom bombs on people who could not possibly be more incompetent when it comes to relationships.

Not terribly original, with echoes of "What About Bob?" and "Forrest Gump," but nevertheless rather enjoyable, if only for a stellar cast that deserves a better script. Rudd is believable and lovable, Mortimer, Banks & Deschanel suitably awful people, and Coogan and Scott have decent turns in supporting roles. Jones is underutilized.

This is an interesting movie. A lot of the plot falls into cliche indie trappings which is kinda off putting. The fact is however I just love entire cast. Paul Rudd plays a character that is so honest and genuine that its hard not like him. Regardless of how trite parts of this film may be it still never failed to put a smile on my face. Plus the ending is simply to die for. Just the biggest smile of all.

Our Idiot Brother is occasionally funny, always charming, but progresses too rapidly near its conclusion, leading to most of it feeling artificial and failing to make its point. Paul Rudd does the most he can in a role that doesn't develop at all, and while the rest of the cast is just fine, their development feels fake. It's a very familiar film, too, and I can't help but feel like it's not worth the 90 minutes it takes to play. I didn't dislike it, but I didn't really have a good time, either.

Paul Rudd played a lovable if not very bright brother with three beautiful sisters. His good nature is not paired with much common sense. He bumbles around trying to find a place for himself. He has a way of making people feel safe and they tell him their secrets, but he's not good at keeping them, which ends up a good thing in the long run, but drives everyone crazy in the short term. I liked the movie but the ending was odd and confusing.

The major reason I wanted to watch this was for several members of the cast whom I like. And they were all good. Other than that, I don't have a lot to say. It wasn't bad at all, just nothing special. I wish it had been a bit funnier, but I don't think they were trying that hard for laughs. Its message was okay, I suppose, if a bit obvious. Yeah, it was pleasant, but never elevated itself beyond that.

A real surprise of a movie. The trailer makes it look pretty dumb. The movie also starts at a very slow and deliberate pace. Everyone acts like an idiot in this movie and yet... it is a very charming and beautiful film. You really start to care for the characters towards the end. The end of the film wraps up very beautifully in an age of hastily written endings. I think this is the best role that I've seen Paul Rudd act in. He is well supported by the rest of the strong cast. Very good.

Our Idiot Brother is a Japanese harem anime in disguise. Coincidentally, this one includes 40% of my aesthetic top 10--yes, there are lists for other factors. Watch this solid film because it has a fantastic cast, somewhat interesting plot, and a delightful performance by Rudd. There was a plot hole that really threw me off. He never gives an acceptable reason for not moving back home. When his sister asks why he doesn't, he says something like, "mom's great and all, but you know..." No, we don't. Later, when he wears out his welcome with his sisters and is forced to move in with Mama Rudd, their relationship is depicted as nothing but warm and healthy. It's a fluffy movie built around a great character, but it really would have been better without the forced drama.

It's an affective, sweet piece of family drama, that depends mostly on its great cast to work -- Rudd is at his best as this nice hippie bro that just talks too much and ruins (or changes) the lives of his three sisters. Guess it should be funnier and have a better finale, but there is plenty of good feelings here anyway.

our idiot brother is a movie that is exactly what it's main character and namesake is. a feel good, well meaning, blunder. it's not bad, it's not particularly good, and it's forgettable. it has the added benefit of being one of those uniquely forgettable movies that you assume was alright just because you can't remember it. i also have to add, when the main character cracks and yells at his family, it was really satisfying to see him do what i wanted to for a half hour.

So charming--and so likably performed by everybody--that it'd have been better served as an easygoing character study. The soap opera-esque, borderline screwball plot contortions that it goes through don't to it any favors, but we're always certain things are gonna turn out all right for good old Ned in the end. It's a mediocre film that really overachieves because a few people excel in the film: Paul Rudd, T.J. Miller, and Kathryn Hahn. It feels like a movie I'd seen a million times before and lacks anything story-wise to set it apart. There's no reason this couldn't have been better: the cast (esp. Rudd) is plenty likable & the narrative structure is perfect 4 a comedy w/ only a couple of contrived scenes. Unfortunately it's lacking it's most essential ingredient as it's not particularly funny. There are a few laughs here & there, but the hit-miss ratio is pretty lousy & given how well the rest of the machine works it's unfortunate that they didn't spend more time refining the humor.
