Dear William Brent Bell, Just when I thought you couldn't get any dumber, you go and do something like this... and totally redeem yourself!

There's this weird, foggy filter throughout the whole film and I really don't know what they were going for with that lmao. I honestly found the entire movie so underwhelming, it all felt so cheap in every way; and of course, i can't not mention the body double they used for the main character, which just makes everything look even more ridiculous.

The body double does not work at all, they should have either recast or committed to the same actress because the constant switching back and forth is worse then any downsides to those other options.

The cloudy filter used throughout the movie foreshadowed the ending.

Truly better than I expected. I wondered why Julia Stiles was in this. Now I know. It's not exactly competent in its Depalmaness, but it's the thought that counts.

It's just so delicious to watch such a predictable film trying to surprise audiences through the most ludicrous ways -- the film seems like it's literally trying to slap on our faces all the time with so many weird twists, bursting splatter/gore material, gratuitous killing. Julia Stiles is awesome.

The forced perspective and body double trying to make this 25 year old woman look like a 9 year old girl are extremely cringe and not at all effective. The film also looks visually terrible, there’s a weird haze over everything as if the whole movie was shot out of focus or something.

Starts off well, but the plot becomes more and more contrived as the story progresses until it stagnates. The first movie's suspense generated by the family figuring out Esther's identity is not present here. It has all become quite messy by the end. A prequel that is not worthy of the reputation that the original film had established.

Interesting idea for a prequel considering the logistics required. First half is probably a 2.5/10, to the point we turned this off and I didn't go back to it solo until now about a yr later. That said at the midpoint we hit a solid 7.5 moment which was groovy and then slid back into the depths of a 4 level or so. I'm landing on a 3.9 on the whole. Brutal cgi near the end took me out of it. I didn't even really hate this that much, but it's just not good. Tomatometer let me down here.

The scene with Esther driving and listening to Maniac is cringe af and you can't change my mind on that.

It's like the first one but worse theme consistency. Some scene location choices really felt out of place. The twist saves it as a passable thriller.

"Orphan: First Kill" is not as thrilling as the first film, but it manages to recapture the unexpected energy and zany tone of the original with some brilliant twists and turns. Isabelle Fuhrman delivers a stupendous performance, and the film is simply a fun time that will appeal to anyone who enjoyed the first movie.

This one is much better than I expected, but still didn't live up to the original. Horror fans might appreciate it.

While Orphan: First Kill doesn’t have the advantage of riffing on a moribund predecessor, its creators understood that the job demands clearing a high bar for crazy, which inspires a go-for-broke pulp energy that’s appealingly ragged. If you can’t be grade-A schlock, it’s best to be grade-Z schlock.

It's not much of a technical achievement to make a short, youthful looking actress appear slightly shorter and more youthful on film. That being said, Fuhrman was great, as was Stiles. I caught the twist the second they rolled up on the house, but I pushed it out of my head because I didn't think they would bother referencing a certain high profile crime case. When they did, I giggled and was on board. Great kills, but average otherwise.

The first Orphan would have killed this one for how average this is.

Well, at least it crossed off my biggest concern that it would feel pale in comparison to the first one. But no, it had a great twist and managed to surprise me. But it did have a lot of problems, like the cheap feel of the movie with a weird foggy filter and some of the writing and plot lines left a lot to be desired.

I wasn't excited for First Kill, the first movie was pretty overrated for me anyway. Only the bloody death scenes were better than I expected but other than that nothing interesting. And I have to say, now that Isabelle Fuhrman is 25, it's impossible to see her as a child, so she looked very strange.

The first half is underwhelming but then a twist at the beginning of the second act spices things up a bit. Still, nothing outstanding. The filter used to shot this is rather distracting, not sure what the aim of this was. Also, were there no DNA tests in 2007? I'm pretty sure there were.
