Orgasmo

Essentially softcore porn for 1969 - & now - as it spends more than half the film titillating male viewers w/ some nudity & sex but also w/ various kinks (which are mostly implied, but hard to miss), including lesbianism, incest, & some sadism. It certainly must've been boundary-pushing for the time & even feels a little edgy now. It's done w/ alot of the late 60's directorial flourishes & the last 10 minutes deliver an unexpected shock, a twist, & an ending that presumably censors demanded.

This was quite different from what I was expecting and I can see how some might not consider it a Giallo at all. Most of the film is just one overlong party and you can practically smell the fumes of J&B through the screen. It's quite risque stuff for late-60's and Baker does not shy away from nudity. There's not much proper suspense, until the ending at least. This might work better with expectations in check and from a better source than the somewhat faded Severin blu-ray.

Not a bad film by any means, and yet it is repugnant. I've asked the question before, who watches this trash? - I remember, it's me! - and we're back to square one.
