Oorlogsgeheimen

Nearly everything about this film is good. My only grievance is the underwhelming performances of the child actors. They simply don't have the capacity to be convincing when it's most needed.

I usually go for coming-of-age films and this is one where the setting seems perfect. Idyllic Dutch village, WW2 in full flow, kids discovering where family loyalties lie and also a love triangle! What more could one want? Plus the film looks terrific, with its forests, caves, barns and farmhouses in a lovely summer light. Sadly the weakest links here are the child actors, who all three have some truly cringe-worthy delivery of their dialogue. Probably a thrilling book, but a harmless movie.
