Surprisingly well made and acted. Williams was damn creepy and the tone and pacing of the first half was legitimately unsettling and scary. The second half didn’t quite live up to the first half for me, but I still liked the ending and execution of this character and the story. Gary Cole was damn good too. Definitely check this out if you’re a fan of horror, or just love Robin Williams. nEoN gEnIsIs EvAnJeLiOn.

Effectively tense and, as nearly all reviews say, creepy. Well photographed and edited, with a good score. Unfortunately, the climax is unsatisfying, and, worse, appends a trite "explanatory" conclusion (in other words, the filmmakers failed to learn the lesson of PSYCHO). Nevertheless, a fair attempt at creating a modern example of what Robert Phillip Kolker calls (referring mainly to films of the 1970s) the "cinema of loneliness".

Feels like a missed opportunity. I bet the script was a lot better than what the movie actually was, needed a better director. Robin Williams plays creepy about as well as anyone else, the rest of the cast is very bland and forgettable though. Also the movie is inherently dated because of digital technology, it's weird they made this in 2002.

I have to give credit to the Romanek, it would have been so easy to just let Sy's psyche collapse upon itself, turning him into a psychotic killer. Romanek recognized that this would go against the character. Even though a gory ending would have attracted a larger audience (although $30m is nothing to sneeze at) he went for realism. Despite this, the film feels awkward and a little forced. It left me somewhat cold.

In its composition, use of colour, and stunning lead performance by Robin Williams One Hour Photo carries with it a sense of nostalgia and beauty unusual for a thriller. It instead comes across as a careful and delicate examination of the fragile human soul.

A terrific, enjoyable watchable, and hopefully unrelatable thriller-drama, with a premise that is both unique and now nicely nostalgic, cementing this film in a particular time. It wouldn't be as great without Williams, giving what has to be my second favourite performance from him (Popeye is obviously my favourite), a down to earth role that's scarier the more human he tries to be.

I'm really glad that I came across this movie. After I watched it I think it is really an underrated piece of art. Williams did a fantastic acting (as usual). Should be counted amongst Williams' best work. He never breaks the facade and delivers on the wide range this role demands of him. This is a nice little slow burner, fine-paced and exquisitely photographed. Romanek's extensive experience with music videos is at work here: the film plays with the subtext of its subject matter -- framing -- and it never gets dull. I'm not irked by the ending; I think Williams needed to hit something deeper and that was the best they could find.

Effective skin-crawler, though cheesy. Actually gets much less scary when Sy takes the predictable turn from creep into outright psycho. Considering the subject, it's rather trendy and flashy, exhibiting late-MTV lensing and editing, the Bush-era doldrums as perfected by Nolan et al, and elements of the "cubicle movie." Voiceover sucks.

One Hour Photo is a mediocre film with a great performance from Williams. I grew up with his whimsical, fun and good-natured characters, and despite a drastic shift here, I feel I was somewhat rooting for his happy ending throughout due to a sense of lingering familiarity; a casting choice that made for an interesting dynamic. Cole is good as well, but the rest of the cast seem listless. Thematically the film appears to be about perception and justice, though neither are explored that well.

One Hour Photo is an understated thriller with a surprising performance that nobody expected from Robin Williams. The scale is small and the plot gradually wanders off into the abyss. But the flaws are camouflaged and elevated by Robin Williams who gives a performance that will put any fan of his work out of their comfort zone. He remarkably reveals the other side of his acting talents that have barely been showcased. Almost like a parallel of what his acting career could have turned out like.

There are so many elements that make this a great thriller: The unnerving plot (and its unsettling florescent setting) that moves from subtle chills to full-blown psycho-horror; Williams' nuanced turn as the creepy yet tragic and human lead character; the excellent score (at times melancholy and mournful, at others eerie and pulsing); the thoughtful scene framing and The Shining-esque long tracking shots. The unclear ending lacks that immediate impact but it fits the film's blurred tone.

Anchored by a great performance by Robin Williams (one of his best), this is a really compelling psychological thriller that's a HUGE about-face from his usual fare. Sy the Photo Guy is memorably creepy, and yet also sympathetic, and Williams gets absolutely lost in the role (it's one of those rare performances where you forget you're watching a famous movie star).

It's a well executed film, it does everything it set out to do perfectly. This film's only downside is that it's saddening, it's about yet another goodhearted but broken human being who didn't simply set out to fix his life. I'm not saying it's easy but life is what we make of it and Sy made an isolated existence for himself, broken or not. If there's anything to learn from this film is don't wait for a day saving plot twist or stalk people, help yourself to find decent friends.

The casting of the film was well-chosen, particularly Robbin Williams who plays a isolated and socially-alienated older man oddly well. We've all seen these frail generic men at lifeless big box warehouse stores. The direction of the timing and tension building was dramatic and unsettling; I wish it made more use of Lynchian techniques immersing demented visuals of Sys daily nightmare. The study of the child's empathy was also vital, something that many people are desensitized to with time.

Robin Williams plays a similar character to the one he played Insomnia, which is better then his comedic roles. He has lots of awkwardly creepy scenes. The movie itself isn't all that great, it's feels pretty generic, and at times it drags. It's good enough for 90 minutes, but don't expect to remember it for very long, it's a very disposable film. Robin Williams's both delicate and threatening performance -- an uncomfortable balance -- is really the greatest thing here, a nicely shot, but inconsistent stalker diary. Just picture some of its flaws: the boy doesn't tell his parents that Sy tried to give him a gift; in the hotel, instead of checking the victim first, the police officers go for Sy. Good for Romanek he had Williams available.

Mark Romanek's first foray into feature length filmmaking proves elegiac -- the tones and textures are subdued; there's a sorrowful longing and melancholy swirling underneath the surface. The shots are immaculate, and the Hitchcockian propulsion serves our protagonist well. The major flaw is the asymmetry of the somewhat weak story and powerful execution. It's all so tragically mundane, but I feel that this highlights the dénouement with considerable power.

It's biggest flaw is that it's out of it's time. I just wrote a bad review to "There Will be Blood" for some of the same reasons that this movie deserves a good review. It's not Se7en, it's not Silence of the Lambs, there's no gore or horror in the modern sense. That said, let the immersion happen, let yourself just watch without expectation, and without totally blowing you away, it becomes very entertaining and isn't avoid-eating-beforehand disgusting. Also, excellent acting.
