British multi-artist Ivor Novello for his only Hollywood talkie. He wasn't really suited for the American audience and was barely in it, regardless of getting second billing. They were clearly trying to hide his homosexuality, which must have been a impossible task, which is why he appears only in a few brief cardboard scenes where he very stiffly blabber out some unconvincing lines. Thankfully Ruth Chatterton comes across convincing. Too bad the rest didn't have her standard.
