I like van Warmerdam, but he should seriously leave this meta-fiction stuff to Charlie Kaufman. I would say this is a lot like Adaptation sans Kaufman's latent pathos and soulfulness, but it's actually probably less about deconstructing a screenplay and more a meta-commentary on the director's own manipulations of his characters and the moral obligations (if any) he has toward them (which makes it closer to Solondz' Storytelling). It's funny but ultimately feels a little bit hollow and smug.

I've enjoyed all the van Warmerdam films I've seen, but they always leave me a little distanced. This is the closest to hitting the sweet spot, and I think it's because of the meta aspects. It has the usual absurdist humour of his films, but the wrinkle adds a layer of meaning besides "modern life sucks."

Very funny and quite dramatic film. There are a few hilarious scenes in it. I found the girlfriend of the author very annoying though. I also thought the ending was weak and too rushed. 'Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee etc'

A really, really enjoyable film with an interesting narrative structure and a main character that is very well portrayed. More could have been done with the idea, it's a pretty simple and straightforward story once you realize what it's all about, but nevertheless it's a great way to spend your time at least considering the film's short length.

An interesting and quite original film in the lines of 'Stranger then fiction'. The idea gives way for many amusing situations, but the incredibly holy (on purpose) results in something more like a joke and places it in my eyes definitely below it's cousin.
