O saisons, ô châteaux

Curious and interesting exploration of the Loire castles with many tangential observations and anecdotes. The relationship between poetry and architecture is one not observed often, and cinema would seem the ideal medium for such an exploration. Favourite is the last chateaux.

wouldn’t mind living there

Although the film does take us through all the castles of the region in the order that they were built and provide their history, it also focuses on the gardens, the gardener, locals and many other things. It's an exquisitely shot and playful short, that I confess eventually wore out it's welcome a bit, but really only because I have very little interest in the actual castles.

Not one of my favorite Varda's shorts, but, hey, she could elevate any material without even trying too hard. Poetic bits on working-class activies and generations of workers doing stuff on castles, taking care of its rooms and vegetable gardens are pretty spot on.
