Far more than just a by-the-numbers weepie; a stellar cast, a strong screenplay, and appropriately restrained direction and cinematography elevate this to the year's upper tier. There wasn't a dry eye in the cinema, and while all films of this nature manipulate their audience in some sense or another, those tears felt truly earned.
