Weird contrast between Tom Mix the dandy cowboy and the bleak winter of the arctic. Tom arrives to shine a light in the darkest of corners. Story moves along at a brisk pace, and Ford does a nice job bringing the right kind of atmosphere to both the primary bad guy (McDonald) and his waif of a niece. The fourth reel ramps up, including a wolf fight and a lively canoe chase that apparently involved Ford actually standing in as the bad guy guiding the canoe downriver. Final reel missing.

This John Ford film is not complete, but there are enough thrills to make it worth your wild. Especially when it's special event of John Ford directing the western legend Tom Mix! The shotgun scene was great!
