Ninja Assassin takes itself much too seriously and tries hard to be a stylized gore-fest. What we get instead is a poorly written, CGI blood and flashback filled shit storm of a ninja movie. I couldn't tell what was even going on in half of the action sequences and the plot makes no sense whatsoever. With messy directing topped off by useless characters played by equally useless actors, Ninja Assassin fails to deliver on all levels.

Only Chuck Norris is above ninjas and not some stupid SWAT/army/special agents who use guns to kill them. Not having pirates in a ninja movie is most obvious fail. Other issues like appalling acting and direction cannot be overlooked. Overall less than piece of crap.

Hey let's make a film about ninjas but instead of having balls out action we'll have 70 minutes of atrocious idiotic dialog in a 98 minute film. Then the action will only occur in the dark with low budget CGI blood effects to hide the dull action choreography. How Hollywood could fuck up a big budget action movie about ninjas so badly is mind boggling. I give it a few points simply because I think there were a few rare scenes where it did shine but it's pretty bad overall.

American Ninja for todays fast foot and 3D video-games loving generation. Story is paper-thin, fights are computer generated and looks like footage from a new fighting game for XBOX. Lead actor, whose name apparently is Rain, is about as charismatic as a workhorse. Bottom line: stupid, and not so fun.

You don't go to a movie called "Ninja Assassin" to watch interpol agents discuss office politics over lunch. Or for the unending agony of orphans talking about the freedom of one's heart in some of the most cringe inducing flashback dialog ever. When the ninjas show up, the action is ruined by the director insisting that the camera and the lighting are shaking at Richter-scale levels, rendering the films selling point incomprehensible. Disappointing at every level and a chore to stay awake.

Ninjas, clichés, CGI blood, an uneasy marriage between old lore and the computer age - and MORE ninjas! By the way: Taken their years of harsh training into consideration, it's pretty weird that Raizo can kill off 10 of his ninja buddies in 10 seconds. Bottom line: Stupid fun.

Aptly titled, this movie is about ninjas assassinating people. Go in expecting more than that, you'll be disappointed. Plot was decent, and the flashbacks helped to move the first half along from the stagnant/incessant ramblings of the Europol scenes. As for the ninja scenes, they were entertaining. CGI was overdone, especially the blood. Rain playing lead was perfect. A good mix of quiet/mysterious and vengeful/crazy/powerful kickass. Being shirtless most of the movie helped too :)

Utter cobblers and a bit too serious it itself to exploit that but there is a fun in watching the plot audibly and visibly clang to a halt to let the ass-kicking resume. Also, when some bullets don't stop magic silent invisible ninjas what do you do? Get a fuckton more bullets, that's what. Also fun is wathcing Patrick from Coupling do one of the worst American accents since Chris Eccleston in Gone in 60 Seconds.

Well it's stylish in a completely over-the-top stylized way I'll give it that. However it unfolds like a stereotypical ninja movie from the 80's. I suppose that's the point. You can now have that cheesy story but with actual competence in the action scenes as well as absolute buckets of blood everywhere. Still it's just terribly juvenile.

A time-machine: pure 80's junk... sorry, 80's straight-to-video junk. The yawn-inducing non-action sequences could prove helpful to insomniacs if not for the blaring volume & the shockingly unimpressive ninja-slicing scenes throwing gallons of red paint all over the place. This is an actual piece of dialogue said by the "cop chief" to his "rogue cop" in front of his SWAT (or whatever) team: "I don't mind if u want to do the insubordination tango, let's just not do it in front of the children".

It's pretty shut-your-brain-off fun. It borders on less-flashy DBZ, Crouching Tiger-inspired fight scenes at times, but that's not all bad. It probably could have done without the absolute saturation of its trailer, which literally played before EVERY movie leading up to its release. It was entertainment, definite eye candy for the 16-30 male demo, and it does its job -- gratuitous ninja action, loose and linear plot, and even more gratuitous ninja action. Plus the dude's name is Rain. Ch'yea.

It's a little better than the Hitman movies. The fast paced editing and shaky camera work really reduces the coherence and impact of the fight scenes. Poor lighting in more than one scene makes the ninjas black-on-black with no silhouette to follow, I know they are supposed to be hard to see but it's a movie, it's accepted that the viewer is able to see things the characters can't. Could have done without the magical elements, just having normal action movie levels of unrealism would be fine.

I would discard most of the CGI, 3D-ish stuff. But this works quite good as an instant homage to old B martial arts films. The almost absence of a minimally complex plot makes the case for a very straightforward, stylish, Wachowskis-produced (sequence on the roof, the dojo final fight) and gory actioner.

Going into a movie called Ninja Assassin, expectations are firmly in B-movie territory to begin with but I still left disappointed. Historically ninjas were creatures of darkness, silent midnight assassins. The movie buys into this idea in a big way, meaning all the choreographed fights (the only reasons anyone is watching a film called Ninja Assassin) take place in near darkness and are impossible to enjoy. The story is about-par for this kind of thing, the acting uniformly dreadful.

Standard format. Training flashbacks, x2 Love interests & hero superseding the master . The East meets West story-lines had potential, but that ended in a 1945 Pacific Theatre kind of way rather than anything streamline and tidy. Some slick choreography/ cinematography to soak up at times. But, far too much CGI blood as opposed to real-time effects. I was onboard for the various extremity removals and other super-violence, but constant bursts of distracting red splashes lessened the effect.

The point of these kind of movies is that you can make them poorly written, poorly shot and poorly acted, as long as the action works for the movie. Unfortunately, this isn't the case here. Most of the action is just really messy, and the enormous amounts of blood is almost all CGI, which looks pretty damn horrible. If you want to make an egdy movie about brutally murdering people, at least make sure you nail the action and special effects.

I really thought this was gonna be good. I did. Man, was I wrong. I'm glad I caught this shit on early morning tv. Why did there have to be a black chick love interest, or any love interest at all? Why ruin a great ninja movie with a shitty love interest? What guy wants to see that shit? And what girl wants to watch Ninja Assassin? More focus should have been given to the training of the assassins as youths, and we shouldn't have any sort of government army intervention at the end.

Ninja Assassin is about ninjas assassinating people. And since they've been around for a thousand years, they've gotten very good at it. The inventiveness is quite admirable. Plot? Yeah, there's a plot about a rogue ninja taking on his whole clan to aid Europol or something, and there's a Japanese fortress in Switzerland for some reason, but - oh, look, blood. Cool.

Its got a lead actor (Rain) who can act physically and perform fight scenes, a virtually unrecognisable Shô Kosugi as a suitably diabolical and evil villain, and its one of the only films where the CGI blood works. Sadly, not only are some of the fight scene badly presented (you cannot see a thing a lot of times) but most of the film is spent on a character development which is redundant and does not have the silly edge to it something like American Ninja and other 80s film had.

Reasonably entertaining junk food for martial arts fans. I can't fault the film too much for its bad acting or formulaic plot developments, as these are too common for the genre to really gripe about. The hyperbolic ninja carnage is amusing for a while, particularly when the film goes off the deep end. The fights are generally fine but they grow a little tedious as the same pattern repeats itself.

This is where the movie can only be classified as a guilty pleasure. Can't decide whether ninjas are stealthy and actually made of shadows or whether they run at you screaming in the middle of a busy street. The plot makes no sense and the characters don't make much either. Bonus negative points for not having a single female character that is competent. The soundtrack sucks too. The only good things are a couple of real surprises and the presence of ninjas... which I became sick of after the movie started depicting them as nothing but cannon fodder for Raizo.

Ninja Assassin is a great movie. Great great great great great movie. It's basically the Citizen Kane of Ninja movies. It has a great plot that's about 2 minutes long and involves hidden love and a fully fledged revenge arc. Every other scene in the movie is either a training montage (awesome) or an overdone, stylish 300esque, VERY gory fight scene. So the movie works on every level and is great. Watch it.

Good. The plot here is a bit all over the place with Japanese guys fighting for world domination in Germany. But its a ninja film and the action simply rocks..hard. The filmmakers successfully achieved a gritty and edgy atmosphere which would have been far more effective if they hadn't added the dumb female Interpol agent to the mix. But still they got shurikens the size of watermelons in there and uber-cool ninja stealth action to boot. Recommended.

I knew nothing about this film going in. Honestly, I was reasonably surprised. The plot was decent, the action intense, and the violence/gore extreme. I particularly enjoyed the flashback sequences that featured the brutal training tactics of the assassin clan. The flashbacks reminded me of 300 minus all the nudity and Persians.
