Nightmare

Jimmy Sangster is the Rian Johnson of Hammer in that his good movies are great, his sy-fy movies are okay, and his space movies are hot garbage. This is reminiscent of his best work, Scream of Fear and Paranoiac. I'd recommend all three and frankly, if you're as nuts as I am, as a triple header. This capped a triple header of my own with two different Hammer films and capped it well. A highlight of the month so far.

A rather effective horror thriller that's only marred by the shrieking over acting by the two female leads. Well paced and directed the film also has some really nice cinematography. This is another one of those films that really benefits from being shot in B&W. The ending featured a nice little twist that was a bit different than I was expecting with was a nice capper for the film.

One of a series of "Psycho" cash-ins written by Jimmy Sangster, this film seems to be very predictable until it hits the halfway point and turns into a completely different film. This second half is far less predictable, and kind of saves the film from mediocrity. Freddie Francis directs and as a result, the film is always visually interesting.

The histrionics got a bit over the top, but pretty fun and stylish throughout anyway.

Nicely and cleanly shot, alot of screaming, "I don't believe you!!", insecurity, true or false, dream or reality, dull as fuck.
