Fred Decker's directorial debut is a gloriously cheesy 80's sci-fi/horror/comedy send-up/homage to 50's-80's genre films. Not to mention, the movie where Tom Atkins officially cemented his cult status, and personally stole my heart. While some of the acting may be a bit wonky, overall the movie is simply full of these small touches and charms from Decker and co., that just makes the whole thing work for me. Insanely quotable, the movie is highly recommend for fans of 80's cheese and genre films.

Awesome movie! I wish I'd discovered this as a kid. It's typical 80s teen comedy fare combined with genre bonuses such as aliens, zombies, flamethrowing and somewhat gory kills. Dekker skillfully handles balancing the tonal shifts and, a B film no doubt, this succeeds on every possible level you could expect of the material. The following year Dekker would go on to direct one of my childhood favorites, 'The Monster Squad', which holds up very well today, too. Both have proved very rewatchable.

For some dumb reason I forgot to rate this when I saw it a few months back. Mental note: stop huffing glue. Night of the Creeps is campy B-movie fun that does need some time to gain momentum but once Tom Atkins goes full Tom Atkins, it's a thrill-ride all the way to the finish.

What blew me away most was how they could make a movie in the 80s with a main character who is disabled (or as we so lovingly called 'em, 'retarded') and not include even one handicapped joke. Not even implied. Bravo, Fred Dekker, for being 7 years ahead of your time.

Great horror-comedy has it all: axe-murderers, zombies, space alien slugs, frat boys, nerds, and Tom Atkins. Further, it's directed by one of nicest men in the biz, Fred Dekker. God, how I love this movie. Recommended double feature with Return of the Living Dead or Re-Animator.

Took a while to get going, but once Dekker and Co. tip their hat to the Horror Gods, the film begins to establish its own identity, and the fun it's having almost transcends the material. I simply don't know how, but amid all the goopy chaos the characters eventually became truly sympathetic: a scene listening to a voice recording comes to mind, as does every scene Tom Atkins storms in to. Thrill Me is my new Jesus Wept.

Cameron: Guess what happened next. Chris: The police found him? Cam: Close. I found him. It wasn't what you'd call your routine police work either. Chris: What would you call it? Cam: Revenge. You see I tracked him during my off hours. Chris: By yourself? Cam: Oh no no no no. I took my 12 gauge with me. - Tom Atkins laying one of my all time favorite scenes.

Riffing on everything from 50s drive-in horror to 80s teen comedy, this forgotten gem may feel like a bit of a patchwork, but it radiates that special form of happy-go-lucky 80s charm.

Dekker's debut is an entertaining and colourful mix of horror and sci-fi tropes that displays a geeky yet admirable reverence for a bygone era of genre film making. It also keenly self aware and displays a thorough understanding of basic genre mechanics. Apart from Atkins, the acting isn't particularly good, and the film isn't as inventive as other contemporary retro updates like Return Of The Living Dead, but it has charm and spirit and blends horror and comedy quite successfully.

Another classic from my youth, this one is an amalgamation of many horror stories/cliches....but it works as a whole. When the crippled kid (FUCK YOU PC POLICE) got infected...I lost it. God damn, the 80's were rough...no fucks were given here...and it's glorious. Thrill me!

Fred Dekker would have done some memorable stuff if he was born 10 years earlier. He "gifted" us with a few dated cheesy films like this that people saw endless times as kids on weekend afternoon tv. This combines horror, gore, and comedy well but the acting is sub-par and the effects are at student film level goofy..especially the infant aliens in the beginning and stop motion/clay leeches. Overall this isn't good but it is inspired trash that shows a love of film and horror schlock.

One of the characters in the movie asks "What is this? A homicide, or a bad B-movie?". The answer would be that this is good B-movie. Humorous, entertaining and filled with references to the classic films. Very 80's in a charming way.

I'm sorry Robocop 3 fans, but this is Fred Dekker's masterpeice. A b-movie that spawned from b-movies and spawned more b-movies, its simply gold. Very good combination of comedy and horror, which I love. The only reason I doesn't receive a higher score is because it falls into some of the cliches of the older b-movies, but oh well, great fun. The alternate ending is better than the original one, though.

Underneath the patina of humor and 80s-movie cliches, this is one of the darkest, most depressing depictions of American life ever committed to film. Women only want you based on your future income, a "university" which seems to be only a larger high school and no one attends classes, all life is utterly vacuous, the heroes all want to kill themselves, and the "victory" is inconclusive at best. What does it matter if alien lifeforms destroy mankind in *this* world?

More goofy than scary. The kind of film that would play on a Sunday afternoon on TV if they cut out the nudify. The effects are fine and leave me wondering how they filmed the slugs. Not sure the space intro or the '50s prologue were necessary. Fav scene: standing on the sorority doorstep with the horde of undead dates approaching.

This is wonderful. A hilariously meta script that could be an original Stephen King novel. Genres blend in a loving and controlled manner and the special effects are still pretty tops. It's also just funny. Highly recommended.

Not to be confused with the usual crappy college/frat movie - this is clever, self-aware and has enough gore to do the premise justice. Above all else though this is damn fun and allowed for a brief moratorium on my disdain for everything 80's.

Another 80s horror is clearly made by a fan paying hommage to old horror, but also too many other B genre movies of his youth. Leading to a movie that tries to do too much at the same time. And while it does a lot of well, it does none great and neither succeeds it totally in combining all aspect well. The tension could have been higher and the comedy funnier. It does have very likable leads and a highly enjoyable Tom Atkins as a though nosed detective. It's all amusing enough for a fun time.

With loads of zany humor & out of place references, hammy performances, a nonsensical plot that never really tries to make sense at all, & a central romance that feels about as forced and hollow as can be on top of a main "hero" who's neither interesting nor likeable, it should be a lot worse than it is- but, there's enough oddball charm and all-out weirdness (plus a fun performance by Atkins) to make it memorable & entertaining for what it is, even if it's really not much. Worth a look.

A great 80s tribute to the 50s. Much like its contemporary "Killer Klowns From Outer Space" this film takes a note from "The Blob" with an alien life form crash landing on Earth and setting it loose on suburbia. It delivers a good horror story but allows some breathing room to laugh. It is also a rare movie to include a disabled main character without making it a central plot point, which gets points from me, as it normalizes something Hollywood sometimes exploits for Oscar cred.

Very moderately beloved horror-comedy follows genre convention in being neither horrifying nor funny. A pastiche of crap centred on 'no-visible-parent teens' cliche. The older actors are significantly better than the younger actors; the young female actors are somewhat better than the young male actors; the acting creating the protagonist is much weaker than the acting creating his sidekick. The 50s-movie feel is lovingly recreated, almost as well as that 'crappy 80s' vibe. Saw original ending.

The humour (at least for the first half) was more miss than hit, however Tom Atkins'es performance helped a tad :) When it finally starts to be good, it becomes REALLY GOOD (in a B-movie way). Also, it has a very young Jeff Daniels as "the guy who passed the sunglasses to the leader of the frat-boy gang after him being shown the finger by his, then, ex-girlfriend". Oh and... it's Miller Time!!!

The movie is blanketed with a sense of unoriginality that prevents it from standing out. Every element is lifted from other movies (which is entirely deliberate, but nonetheless uninteresting) and the consequence is a movie that has no defining style of its own. The 80s cheese is too cringe-inducingly bad and too pervasive for my liking. The catch phrases were so corny and the "jokes" so unfunny that I felt bad for the actors saying them. There's a reason this movie has been forgotten about.

It's not a bad movie at all, but I feel as if I should have liked it more than I did. Some characters- Jason Lively's especially- just don't work, though I'm uncertain as to whether that's the fault of the actors or the writing. Still, the movie is saved by a strong final block and an amazing turn by Tom Atkins.
