No one will mistake this movie for high art, but it has a great cast, a lot of charm, and some legitimately funny moments. Perfectly fine for what it is. Skip the sequels.

Not only a waste of a solid cast, but also of an inspired premise. The laughs are far and few between, and its entertaining until the final act, which features way too many cornball and eye rolling moments.

I was reminded quite a bit of Nightwatch which is about as far in tone as you could get. That movie captures the fear of being alone so well. This one shirked any sense of fear with a sort of wackiness that was perfect for dissipating what could've been some fairly intense sequences. I'm all for that when your movie is marketed towards a younger audience. They can't all be Willy Wonka rowboat specials. Having visited last year, I'm glad he wasn't employed at the Andy Warhol museum.

Entertaining family film, but a little patchy in certain areas. The plot became predictable half-way through, but the cast was as good as I expected.

A cast stacked with comic talent from top to bottom come together to make one forgettable film. There is a certain charm to it though, and some of that talent manages to milk the material for a few good laughs (Gervais in particular). Sure it's predictable, but it's not a particularly bad movie. I was expecting much, much worse. A mildly compelling time-waster.

Not entertaining. Owen Wilson same as always, Ben Stiller same as always. The father-son thing was some contrived jumble... it was not convincing.

I found it to be entertaining throughout and it's wholly enjoyable for people of any age. Ben Stiller, as usual, maintains his signature comedic style and it works well in this over-the-top adventure.

Good effects. Ricky Gervais was hilarious. Aside from that, one of the most forgettable movies I've ever seen. I forgot I watched the movie 5 minutes after it was over. Pretty remarkable.

Hectic family film that doesn't take itself too seriously and has some fun moments. Cameo role by Robin Williams and some good action and effects too. Silly storyline but that's not really the point. Played for laughs and will probably get them.

A great learning tool for the youth and uneducated. Other than that, poor execution and Ben Stiller just needs to simply call it quits. Ricky Gervais is quite funny in this, and he's the only saving grace of this film. Plus, it has some neat ideas thrown into the concept of a cursed museum. Completely forgettable.

This was a much better movie than I anticipated. What fun Dick Van Dyke must have had playing a villain. And that dastardly Mickey Rooney was up to his old trick of trying to steal the show. This was an unexpected trreat to watch.

It's a pretty good family film and Stiller has some typical funny Stiller moments. The little guys were pretty funny too. But as a whole, it was a little too dumb for me. When the final scene is a large dancing party... no thanks.

Ben Stiller comedy. That's really all you need to know to decide if this is worth watching. The really good laughs are counter balanced by awkward moments that last too long and a stupid plot. You can decide for for yourself if the first is worth the second. For me the answer was yes, but only just.

One of the few things good about this movie is the story. A museum that comes alive. How cool is that, endless historical references to be used. Unfortunately this was another half decent Ben stiller movie, but still a whole lot better than the sequel...Some funny sketches/bits combined with a good supporting cast, a lousy script, half decent acting and a cool story make a reasonably good movie. For the kids or the fans of Mr Stiller

If you only watch the first half of the movie, right up to the end of the first night, then you'll probably feel like this is a same-old-same-old crappy movie for kids. But then it gets better. Night at the Museum is a fun idea for a family film. It's sure to entertain children, whilst serving as tolerable viewing for adults also. Ben Stiller gives a somewhat lifeless and unfunny performance. Whilst mini Owen Wilson & mini Steve Coogan are an odd but enjoyable pairing that offer most of the laughs. Robin Williams is a criminally underused but welcome addition. As is Ricky Gervais who humorously steals the few scenes that he's in. But story wise this is a lazy and underwhelming effort.

Jumanji-esque jumble of special effects. Levy oversees one decent cinematic moment, the contrasting views of the Lilliputians letting the air out of the tires of a van at the loading dock, an action which at close range looks as if they're trying to plug a hole in the fuselage of a jetliner at 30,000 feet, while from a distance it looks as if all is calm. Rooney has a nice little role as a truculent security guard forced into retirement

While the idea of a museum coming alive is pretty interesting, plot holes aren't. So the nightwatchmen deliberately wait for someone capable of foiling their plan? And then Am Ra just hands over his power? And a curator listens to the phone call of a crazy man at 3am?

The premise is definitely one of the most unique in ages but that falls apart due to genre cliches and lacklustre attempts to make very wooden historical jokes. Ben Stiller has never really been a big hit for me in films of this nature and this one can be summed up as just another misfire and another misadventure that becomes all too preachy with the message it intends to deliver.
