When the Germans march into Prague, armour-plating inventor Dr Bomasch flees to England. His daughter Anna escapes from arrest to join him, but the Gestapo manage to kidnap them both back to Berlin. As war looms, British secret service agent Gus Bennet follows disguised as a senior German army officer. His ploy is the not unpleasant one of pretending to woo Anna to the German cause. (imdb)

Fun wartime spy film with more setup than necessary when they depicted the various commands discussing the men's missions. There's a bit more humor than I expected, mostly from Thomson and Thompson. Considering the Nazis had prepared a welcoming committee for Harrison and Lockwood when their train arrived in Munich, I'm surprised the climax only involved one convertible chasing the good guys. Fav scenes: flirting/planning with Lockwood in her hotel room; tension over the note left with dessert.

The dry British humour, the spy thriller twists, and that cable car finale are all very Hitchcockian. I had a very fun time, which I didn't expect after those very somber first few minutes. The cast outside of Henreid and Harrison is kind of weak, and some of the plotting feels a little forced, though well paced. That keeps the film from greatness, but it's otherwise a very good time.

This would be better if so many of the plot's contrivances didn't rely on a couple of really fucking stupid British civilians, but it's still quite entertaining. Reed has a knack for suspense and of course a great eye, so the surface pleasures here make some of its flaws more forgivable.

Yes, there are some good suspenseful moments, but I also thought there were slow moments. One thing that bothered me was the fact that non-Engligh characters spoke in English (with a British accent making some of the scenes a little awkward; I'm assuming Harrison's character spoke German, but you never know when he's doing that or speaking English.) I liked the little comedic moments, though.

While a little preposterous not a bad way to spend time. The little connection to The Lady Vanishes, only recently revisited, is a fun touch.

Though often overlooked as a simple retread of its sister-piece The Lady Vanishes, largely due to the similar story and tone which smartly balance humour and high stakes, Night Train to Munich deserves to stand on its own as a British wartime classic. Sharp, exciting and fast-paced, the smart writing allows for Rex Harrison to really shine in a glib leading man role, while Reed establishes himself as a brilliant director.

Gestapo estreava há 80 anos no Reino Unido. Simplesmente AMO filmes propagandísticos dos Aliados na Segunda Guerra e esse certamente é um dos melhores exemplares vindo da Inglaterra. Blurayrip RARBG.

Decent spy-thriller that throws in a little (awkward) romance and humor as well. It's a bit odd watching this in the beginning stages of a worldwide pandemic; our characters here are at the beginning of World War II and most can't quite comprehend what the next few years will bring. There are times when the plot falters or the cheapness of the sets pokes through, but it's still a basic morality tale told fairly well.

Takes a lot of what makes middling Hitchcock bad and highlights it. A couple of great scenes tho . The laughs are not very good either.

Like with The Lady Vanishes (1938), the most memorable thing in Night Train to Munich (1940) is the re-appearance of Basil Radford & Naunton Wayne. This war drama picks up tremendously once they appear! On a similar note Night Train to Munich is a very close relative to The Lady Vanishes, in it's suspense, production style and it's heroes. Carol Reed definitely doesn't do a bad job with this, but you can't help but feel it needed a few more Hitchcock touches to truly be exciting.

A fast and sophisticated wartime thriller about Nazi resistance, undercover intrigue and old-fashioned adventure, shot with refreshingly specific composition and nuanced with keen and candid insight into British life during Hitler's rise to power in the form of lovable everyday British joes finding themselves embroiled in the plot.

A fun little spy romp, notable for its charming characterizations (even if the accents are unconvincing) and sense of humor. It's strange to see a war time thriller of such levity, poking fun where many of its contemporaries were cautionary and moralistic propaganda pieces.

I don't see how I can say anything about this film without mentioning The Lady Vanishes. Same writers, same leading actress, same general milieu, and the return of Charters & Caldicott. How does it compare? Not too bad. I thought this one was slightly funnier (some good jabs at the Nazis) and Rex Harrison holds his own in the leading man role. I dunno what else to say, really... it's a fun time, a little bit clunky here and there but I enjoyed it.

Great little suspense movie, I really enjoyed all of the set pieces they used. It reminded me a lot of a Hitchcock film (in a very good way).

A great suspensful film. I was suprised by the laughs this movie had. I did not expect it to be as funny as it was. I was also impressed by the use of scale miniatures for factories, concentration camps, etc. Sure, it's a little far fetched at times but who doesn't like seeing the Nazis lose?
