Charming pre-code specimen with good humor and Barbara Stanwyck being tough as nails in the role of a nurse.

Lurid pre-code drama about corrupt doctors, child killing, nurses in lingerie and drunken parties. It's not quite as trashy as it sounds but it's pretty fun. The young Barbara Stanwyck isn't nearly as good an actress as she would become but Joan Blondell is quite enjoyable in a supporting role. If the film isn't a masterpiece of screenwriting, at least it has a cynical edge to it that's rather intriguing. Most of this movie would be entirely out of the question just a few years later.

Entertaining piece of early Warner Brothers sensationalism.

Blondell and Stanwyck, two icons of comedy together? Count me in. Well, at the least for the first half, which has some mild hijinks as they learn the ropes about nursing. Once they graduate, though, the world becomes a much scarier place, with guys smacking women around when they're not killing children. On the whole, it was certainly a peculiar mixture of drama and comedy (with the latter working a bit better than the former).

What a curious, extremely entertaining movie! There are at least three scenes where Stanwyck and Blondell are featured in their underwear (ah, pre-code...!), and sub-plots involving questionable medical ethics, debauched partying, a bootlegger with a heart of gold, and child murder. Something for everyone!

"Night Nurse" has two stories, one where Barbara Stanwyck goes through training, somehow showing lots of skin—the other where she battles a bad guy aptly played by Clark Gable. It nice to see a strong woman in a film from this time.

In the first half, Barbara Stanwyck and Joan Blondell run around in their underwear. In the second, Clark Gable hatches a plan to kill a couple of children. Good clean pre-code fun.

A very pre-code picture whose content lingers between the liberated inventiveness and the senseless frivolity of a fairly unregulated industry that eventually had to be constrained from within.

Succinct plotting, edgy material, and a couple of great performances from Stanwyck and Blondell. Lots of fun.

First part is amazing but second part is completely different as like Nurse Marjorie (1920).

Enjoyable for Barbara Stanwyck & Joan Blondell parading in their underwear and for seeing Clark Gable, before he was famous, as the vicious villain who punches old men, old women and Stanwych straight in the face!!! Plus a story filled with alcohol, drugged-up doctors, attempted rape and a child killing scheme! They sure had a lot of ideas for the story, but not one of them finished, leaving the story rather inconsistent and messy. But who cares! This wonderful mess is worth ones time anyway!

A pre-code curiousity. Bizarre story exposes upper-class depravity in a fairly ridiculous plot that is frequently interrupted with scenes of Barabara Stanwyck and Joan Blondell stripping to their undergarments. Clark Gable has a memorable early role as a woman-beating chaffeur.

This movie is filthy and wonderful.
