Next Time We Love

Finally found a Jimmy Stewart movie I didn't like (not that I was looking for one). Many movies from this period deal with love in such an awful way. And apparently it was early enough for Jimmy that he hadn't yet found his acting legs. The movie is full of bad acting and stupid choices.

This is what happens with typical precode marriage stories during the days of the code. Strips the story of all it's life and temperament, and what we're left with is emptiness, people being darn decent and pretending there isn't anything bad going on. A couple of years earlier they wouldn't hide the fact that Margaret Sullavan was fucking Ray Milland while James Stewart was abroad. Kinda ridiculous. The movie starts out sweet and the acting is good, but once they drift apart you drift away too.

This movie was made before Jimmy Stewart became famous. It's a ho-hum romance film and it only follows Jimmy and Margaret Sullavan around in their lives, not much else happened.
