New York Ninja

A giant pile of garbage attempted to be salvaged into something good - this was a great way to end 2021.

First off: it's cool they did this. But! Self-awareness is problematic with trash. Sure, the original material is played completely straight and hilariously off the rails...but dubbing and editing come from a place of ridicule. The end result is a bad movie that WANTS to be funny. It's like Kurtis Spieler is sitting next to you, pointing and laughing, just to be sure. It still works quite often, but can't get anywhere near the masterpieces of it's time (e.g. mafia vs. ninja).

The story of this film being lost is more interesting than the plot here. There's just too much repetition of bad guys kidnapping women and trying to rape them, only for NYN to ninja star one-shot them. I lost sight of the story toward the end. Overall just a nice look back at NYC in the '80s. Fav scenes: roller-skating; hanging on the helicopter.

The fact that somebody made this out of forgotten material makes this an actual found footage film - kinda. And they did a good job. Still, despite some neat moments, it's just too forced.

It was interesting in an incompetent kind of way but not really enjoyable or entertaining.

I was really looking forward to this, but sadly it doesn't reach the "heights" of something like Miami Connection. Maybe the task was impossible to begin with; Vinegar Syndrome has done a good job reconstructing a film out of the original footage, but there are cases where they are unable to make it work. The ending being perhaps the biggest example. I still enjoyed the period details and "Plutonium Killer" was an unique villain in a WTF fashion. Voyag3r's soundtrack was spot on.

Not my style but admirable for trying to finish a movie 35 years after the fact.

Almost has the vibes you want from these kind of things. Just missing a certain something. One of the best stilted voice dubbings.

If you like ridiculous B-movies like Samurai Cop, this is the film for you. It's full of hilarious overacting ("Why!?"), bizarre costumes, ridiculous coincidences and stupid fight scenes in which people wait their turn, fight on rollerskates and use strange weapons like wooden swords. It also has an insane sex scene involving the evil boss who gets magic powers from plutonium (??). The fight scene between Liu and Rattail is 100% certified gold. I laughed so hard i had trouble breathing.

This movie should be called "The Cheesiest Kung Fu Movie Ever Made". It is possibly the worst movie released in 2021. Originally filmed in 1984, ridiculous sound added in 2021 and released. The final result stinks worse than a huge steaming pile of manure!
