Oh god I can't get enough of this stuff. South Korean gangsters! Conflicted undercover cops! Honor! Betrayals! Assassinations! Drama! Also features the best stabbing scene in an elevator since Wallace and Gromit Can Only Be Pushed So Far.

A modern and gritty South Korean Godfather. It's an interesting study on loyalty, and builds to an exciting, twisty climax.

well-directed,good characters plugged into its gangster roles, the drama goes next level, and it’s got that quiet, serene yet gritty “calm before the storm” mood. all the genre trappings to catch any fan who’s in the mood. But for me, it’s just not fresh and the handling of the character and Lee Jung-jae’s over-the-top stressed out acting just put me off.not necessarily “bad” but fails because it just makes me want to cleanse my palette with the movies it’s inspired by.

Machiavellian as hell. My problem with it is that they never show these "gangsters" doing anything illegal until certain scenes that advance plot, it's just a lot of talking about how bad they are so you never get a sense of the true depravity, if it even exists. Has a nice twist at the end and one of the characters even proclaims "what a twist!" It is often quite slow and trudges along to some amazing scenes of violence, particularly this badass mass knife fight in an elevator

A nice looking film, well acted, simmering, quiet tension, but I couldn't fully invest into these miserable, corrupt people. What do these gangsters actually do anyway besides walk around in nice suits.

This movie is insanely patient; it's a crime film in which the first violence doesn't take place until an hour in. Instead, Park delves into the lives of his principals, dividing sympathies between several cops and criminals, and then sets them all in motion against each other, so when things finally come to a head, it's thrilling. The last 40+ minutes are exciting as hell, and no less full of twists and turns than what came before. One of the cleverest crime films I've seen in years.

It was good. But it also reminded me that I'm not really a fan of gangster movies.

Real good fun, once the story gets going. Actually it's only scene which makes this film stand out; a very unexpected and welcome surprise.

Mafia power vacuum with some puppeteering police make up the plot here. If that barrel character had been his wife & met the same outcome, I'd be properly impressed. Carpark/Elevator scene is the highlight. You almost forget to notice the mafia enterprise doesn't actually get up to much underworld crime.

Once you get past the first 30 minutes, it becomes really tense. An exceptional crime drama. But spoiler: ....................................................................................................................... They forget to tie up one very important loose end; the wife knows.......
