Wallingford is a con-man whose specialty is taking money from suckers. His partners are Schnozzle, a pickpocket and car thief; and Blackie, who has played the game for years. Jimmy's latest deal involves land and a clay pot factory in a small town. One were William Haines isn't an obnoxious women hater! He's still smooth conman, but this is him toned down compared to just about every other picture he did. Plus his road to reform is a lot less chaotic. That actually makes for a likable film from the cult icon. Helps that they have him in a trio with Ernest Torrence & Jimmy Durante, and Freaks (1932) babe Leila Hyams as the love of his heart. Simply a pleasant early talkie.
