Although it's sonically like Young's most popular period, "Prairie Wind" is only an okay album, so it's welcome when he turns to a set of similar sounding songs from his past. It really elevates a good concert film to a really good one.

Straightforward filming of Young in concert has some resonances with STOP MAKING SENSE in the way that Demme gives the impression of both a crowds eye view, while also delivering an intimate close-up view of the musicians at work. Young's older, more mellow presence means that this lacks the inherent excitement of the earlier effort; the first half is a pleasant, muzak-y mosey through some light C&W, while the second half digging in to the back catalog is far more satisfying and involving.

"Demme understands this genre intimately; he recognizes that the concert film requires more than just haphazardly pointing the camera at the musicians." - Keith Uhlich

Neil gets sentimental and sings about nature and family, then gets nostalgic with 70s material. The latter part is superior, but there's better footage of him doing Harvest.

Would've liked to see more songs from albums other than Prairie Wind, but a great performance, nonetheless.

Great music, good stories, well shot by a more-than-competent director. For a concert film, what more could you ask for? Fans of Young are in for a treat.

I liked his older stuff in the second half of the movie. I'm not really into the country Neil Young

Young sings. Demme films him. The audience claps.

A wonderful concert documentary.Young is one of my favourite musicians, and Demme constructs the film in a skillfully reserved fashion.
