At some point in this film, Wisecracking Sidekick #3 yells out "that was just like a scene from Speed!" To which one can only reply "oh it most definitely wasn't, but thank you for explaining the deeper meaning of your movie's title for me."

I love using excessive adjectives for my movie reviews, but these just won't cut it here. So I'll say it this way: This movie is so stupid, that when I came home right after watching it, a Dutch romantic soap series was on on TV, and I thought "hey, this isn't actually all that bad."

Preposterously dreadful. Not one fucking thing here makes any sense! It's a film about a bunch of pricks, driving like pricks, talking & acting like pricks & generally being complete... well you know! Whilst being shat upon from a great height by Gatins abortion of a screenplay, you'll be subjected to every cheap camera & lighting trick in the book, as well as an almost offensive amount of direct to camera smoldering from Aaron Paul, and Michael Keaton's endless plot summerising. Urgghhh...

I've got the need, the need to exceed the posted vehicular speed limits. This movie was fun. I'm embarrassed to say it, but I had a good time watching it. The acting was atrocious at times and the writing seemed to have stalled out. When the rubber hits the road this movie can be pretty fun. There are a few surprising moments (falling off the canyon attached to a Marine chopper) that really widen your eyes. Michael Keaton is the best part of this movie, he's a crazy radio D.J. that channels his

I freely admit that it's probably just because I was buzzed-to-drunk while watching (and stuffing my face with delicious reheated Mexican food), but I actually kinda sorta enjoyed this. Certainly more than the last Fast & Furious, which got so into its own series mythology it forgot about the damn cars. This flick, on the other hand, is all cars, all the time! So many races, so many chases, so much vehicular warfare.

Almost completely absurd, and yet I found myself captivated by the testosterone-fulled ballet of the nail-biting race sequences. Aaron Paul and Imogen Poots make the best of the dumb screenplay, and while no-one will ever mistake this for high entertainment, there is enjoyment to be had here - and I say that as someone not even sold on the Fast & Furious franchise.

A potentially entertaining film brought down by some laughably absurd shenanigans, and a disturbing misanthropic undercurrent - it's pretty clear the movie cares more about the cars than the characters. Dino leaving Pete's crash behind without a second thought is essentially the same thing the film does every time a potential pedestrian death is brushed off and ignored. Aaron Paul and Imogen Poots being cute helps, but not nearly enough.

The true stars of the show are the cars (drool), the driving and the locations....even though they're used completely randomly without any correlation to the requirements of the story**. The acting was adequate at best, and the story sets the audience up for good/bad whiplash from one end to the other. Imogen Poots (cute as hell but born with a real anti-marketing name) along with Michael Keaton were the best thespian offerings.
**The story starts in upstate NY, but imagine my surprise w

If what you want from Need for Speed is a fast-paced and reckless drive from New York to California with the occasional obstacle thrown in for fun, then the film delivers. The races are plenty exciting, if repetitive, and the stunts all feel real. It has uninteresting characters played blandly by the actors. It's impossible to care about the main character's quest for revenge. Without that emotional attachment, it's hard to recommend Need for Speed except to the most die-hard fans of fast cars.

Fundamentally undermines itself by following up its dramatic centerpiece of death by dangerous driving with… dangerous driving with innocent bystanders being used as crash test dummies for giggles (not to mention the homeless guy who gets all his possessions destroyed in a real “badass” moment *haha*). It gives an otherwise passable actioner an ugly, snide tone difficult to shake off, despite performances that are as good as the material requires, and some reasonably well-executed car stunts.

I will defend this movie to death, I think it's amazing for what it is. It will never win any awards and most swept it under the rug, but I think it tells a decent story, as I can get behind Aaron Paul in this. The racing and action...it's just amazing. The absence of CGI is a positive, better than anything in Fast and Furious. You can make the argument it's a little long, but I don't notice it. It's a good revenge story with fast cars...and Michael Keaton...who doesn't love him?

I mean this movie is stupid, of it course it is, but it also hates women, which is kinda weird. You don't need to hate women just to love cars. Or maybe becoming wetter proportionate to the number of times an engine revs is true to life. No, no this movie is just stupid.

Need For Speed, based on the racing game of the same name, roars from zero to sixty in... about thirty minutes. The first half hour of this movie is a slow, endless slog of poor, but once the story gets out of the way and the cars begin racing cross-country it's an absolute blast.

Hits all the right notes in the song it set out to sing. It's exhilarating, over-the-top, noisy, and even a little emotional. Yes, it's gamey and formulaic, but it's based off a computer game: for what it is, it's a fun, clean, smoothly presented film. The "first-person" interior angles were stupendous.

I'm not a speed freak, but I actually ended up getting into this car demolition! Spectacular scenes that brings one right inside the crashes! One of the motor-vehicle related movies I've enjoyed the most (not that I've seen that many). But like most two hour drives, you do get a bit carsick.

How to make a better movie out of Need for Speed: Cut every scene without driving. Then you make it easier to ignore the nonsensical plot, you cut all of the worst scenes in the film, it's no longer over two hours - a running time it really doesn't earn - and you get to keep a lot of really well done racing sequences.Waugh knows how to make a stunt sequence shine - being a former stuntman, he's like a modern Hal Needham - but he can't do non-action - like, well, a modern Hal Needham.

This was bad, but not as bad as it could have been. The sheer amount of clichés in the script was quite astounding, actually. It made for a very dull and predictable story. The main reason for this film is cool car chases, of course, and yeah, they're pretty well done. But nothing as good as in The Fast and the Furious or its sequels, so it's hardly worth it. Between A Long Way Down and this, I'm starting to think Jesse Pinkman was all Paul could really play. Poots is pretty adorable, though.

It went under the radar for its total lack of compromise with the actual car porn fetish depicted in the Fast and Furious franchise. And, yes, NFS would have made more sense if released in the early 00s. Well, Waugh does what matters here -- dozens of cameras to shoot chasing and racing scenes, but there is also an overall sense of danger/despair (through those videogame-like POV shots) that few films present). Also, morality (guy who wanted revenge ends up saving the villain) seemed nice.

One word to say very good, but this movie or a good shot could be called.
From the game adaptation of the film in general remain weak because of the characters in the film remain weak, according to the game however, this is in the film, new story and new characters created just environments, cars, and use is taken from the game.
Post the story and characters have been successful, the car scenes are long, and the most I can say over and over again, especially in one scene I watched.

But even still the characters and acting come across as bland, while the script is so full of plotholes and the dialogue so poor, these fun moments become much less fun. I actually thought the runtime and the amount of action was a nice change of pace. Usually you would see a lot of action pushed into a 80 or 90 minute movie. Not with Need For Speed and I liked that. The rest however, it just doesn't feel credible. And even though there was enough time to really dive into the characters, it just didn't happen. Not to mention how uninteresting the actual cars were.... 37/100.

Need for Speed follows the long proud tradition of games being turned into crappy movies. It pays homage to powerhouse movies like Battleship, Hitman and BloodRayne. I for one could NOT have lived without this. I can now rest assured that Paul Walkers legacy will be carried on in equally bad car movies. Thank you Scott Waugh for making this. Starts bad, but once they start the cross-country drive it's watchable and occasionally quite enjoyable, particularly the chemistry between Paul and Poots. It actually rung true to the spirit of the video games in the segments where it was trying to, though it's far too heavy on wanton destruction, particularly considering its "message". Keaton phones it in in lengthy segments that must have been shot in a day. His character makes no sense, and the other supporting characters are bland at best.

If you've owned a video game console recently, there's a good chance you've played one of the 20-plus Need for Speed titles that Electronic Arts has published since the franchise's inception back in 1994. Since then, EA has sold a combined 150 million units, making the series the most popular racing franchise of all time. No doubt DreamWorks and Disney are counting on that built-in marketing advantage when it comes to this big-screen adaptation. (pluggedin.com)
