Creepy anthology of horror tales which uses the framing device of H.P. Lovecraft stealing the stories from the guardians of the Necronomicon. As ultimately pointless as it is to try and depict Lovecraft's madness-laced prose visually on screen, this flick manages a to maintain a competent balance between tension building and goopy monsters sprouting wriggling tentacles. Not bad if you like that sort of thing.

The problem with the horror anthology format is that there's not enough time to develop any palpable sense of dread, or any real concern for the plight of the characters. I loved seeing Combs as Lovecraft, and the gore effects are pretty creative and disgusting, but otherwise there's nothing terribly compelling about this. "The Cold" should've been a full-length feature, no doubt.

Dull horror anthology uses the somewhat annoying double framing device in all 3 stories (so we are basically seeing a story about someone telling a story three times); generally poor to middling performances mean the occasionally effective make-up effects are all for naught. Warner proves he can elevate any material simply by showing up; the final segment touring through a creepy netherworld arguably comes closest to working.

Fails to create any sort of suspense or mood. Bad lighting, music, acting and effects. Shame. I was hoping for something passable, but felt a bit embarrassed throughout.

One of the worst movies I've ever seen. Blech. Awful.

The moment you start to get a little bored with a segment, the most disgusting thing ever happens and sucks you back in.

Os dois primeiros segmentos são meh, mas o do Yuzna é uma pequena obra prima. DVD Versátil Lovecraft no Cinema Volume 2. Chegou hoje e eu não me contenho.

An uneven but consistently over-the-top terror anthology, loosely drawn from H. P. Lovecraft's scare stories and featuring gross-out FX (courtesy of, among others, Steve Johnson and Screaming Mad George). Kaneko's "The Cold", starring Warner and Perkins, is the best story.

Decent but no winner. Great to see Jeffrey Combs as H.P. Lovecraft, though
