There are absolutely pointless zoom-ins and close-ups every few scenes, and it makes Corbucci's attempts at another Westploitation hit come off as amateurish. Like "Django", the best part of the film is the theme song; unfortunately, it's played practically every 5 minutes so you'll be hearing "NA-VA-JO JOE, NA-VA-JO JOE" in your head for days.

It's slow and ridiculous, any connection to reality is lost in the poor acting.

Terrific western entry proves Reynolds can join the ranks with Eastwood and Bronson as a stone-face hero; the avenging angel component of his character is an intriguing distinction. Well choreographed action sequences (hopefully no horses were harmed during production!) and fine cinematography are plusses; an obvious inspiration for KILL BILL or even UNFORGIVEN in its mediation on violence and vengeance.

The music is good. The rest? Eh.

Decent enough spaghetti western about Burt Reynolds as a one man killing machine. Not as good as Corbucci classics like The Great Silence and Django and Reynolds is no match for Kinski and Nero as a lead acter but worth the watch.

Burt Reynolds is Navajo Joe. That's probably all you need to know to know that this movie isn't good. I've trained myself to ignore the dubbing, though it's still a mystery why every male voice has to be a gutteral snarl. Ennio Morricone's score elevates this from junk status.

This was Burt Reynolds' first leading role in a movie, and later he became ashamed of it and said it was the worst experience of his career. Understandible, because casting Reynolds as a native American was a screaming lapse in judgment. He is very wooden here, plus the movie is just cookie-cutter good-guy/bad-guy/revenge fare, and very lacking in the believability department.
