The premise makes no sense and while MacDonald is a good singer it is not a voice that works for me on film. That said, it's an enjoyable enough little love story with good interplay between the leads.

Jeanette MacDonald gets a new leading man after Maurice Chevalier had left for home. Her new man is fresh Hollywood face Nelson Eddy with a strong dark operatic voice. So since MacDonald singing very high, you get a very 'high & low' musical love affair. And this was a very operatic film. Fancy costumes and painfully loud singing. Too much for me, but no doubt about their singing talents. Just not my kind of style. And that made it a little difficult for me to fall for this film.

Weak Best Picture nominee from the mid 30s. I didn't really care for the operatic musical style and the ending is extremely rushed. It's like they realized they only had one shooting day left and hadn't thought up an ending yet.
