It's usually a bad sign when the protagonists have to explain clues, puzzles and mysteries but when they have to explain not only the clues, puzzles and mysteries but specify that they ARE explaining a clue, puzzle or mystery it just takes bad writing to a whole new level. The plot is just full of holes and the riddles are just eye-rolling. None of the cast can save this film, especially Cage who's seems to think that he can go bald gracefully by growing his last remaining hair really long.

A poor man's Indiana Jones. ridiculous, silly and eye-rolling, National Treasure: Book of Secrets is a completely unsatisfying mess of events. Worthless and full of holes, this can only be viewed as absolute trash, and when it is it's decent, which is why it receives a 45 from me.

This is an entertaining well made film plain and simple. Don't over-think it and enjoy it for what it is. Great cinematography and effects and the movie flows at a good pace. The acting is great and the chemistry is really good since this is the second film with basically the same cast and there is some nice bits of humour thrown in.

Cheerfully silly but very entertaining globe-trotting hokum, aided by a stunning A-list cast who do far from their best work, but all seem to be having a great time. Highlights include one of the finest ever on-screen Cage rants, a shouting duel between Harris and Cage, and the cute and charming chemistry between Voight and Mirren as Cage's estranged parents. Definitely tests your incredulity quotient, but gets the job done with a fair degree of style.

National Treasure: Book of Secrets is a subpar sequel to a silly, stupid, yet fun movie. There aren't as many thrills this time around, and the clues act more like big arrows pointing to the next one than genuine obstacles to overcome. The characters do get some depth, which is nice, and I liked Cage and Kruger together, but the film just didn't hold up as a whole. It felt very much like the first film, right down to the obligatory chase scene, but it just didn't work as well this time around.

It's so bad, but I couldn't stop laughing at some of it, so it gets bonus points for that. My favourite bit was when Cage wanted to take a photo of a piece of wood, so he deliberately drives through a red light and then hacks into the police database and gets the CCTV image whilst still in the car. Yes, really. Just watch it with friends and take the piss out of each ridiculous thing as it happens - it's the only way you can tolerate something like this.

I'm giving this film decent marks for 3 hilarious ironies: 1) for a family film, this has one of Cage's all-time best on-screen freakouts, 2) forgotten civilizations create way more intricate and profound architecture than we ever could, and 3) for all the nationalist jinglejangling, it's comic brilliance that a guy kidnaps the U.S. President and the entire Armed Forces can't find him. It's like the treasure was in a suburb in Pakistan, or something.

So, Nic Cage wants to clear his great-grandfathers name because he might have been involved in Lincoln's assassination, so he goes on a hunt for the legendary city of gold! Spoiler alert: this works perfectly even though it proves literally nothing about anything.

Its a bit the same as with Transformers 2, it tries to be more funny and embrace a broader audience, but neither of it works. The climax of badness is when Voigt and Mirren pick up and argument where they left it 32, yes 32, years ago...

Not as good as the first, its not Indiana Jones but succeeds at emulating the hat wearing whip laden hero more than Da Vinci Code does, which is kind of sad given the much greater talents involved in DVC. However all of this critical stuff aside, this isnt supposed to be a "good film" rather its just fun. Plot holes, ease in the adventure true, but I have fun watching it everytime (i catch it on TV a few times), which shocks me b/c im aware of everything else.

Good movie, good sequel. Some scenes are exagerated, but the entire film is over the top so you really don't care anymore. Cage plays his roll wonderful, he's really the man to play this. Except that some scenes are really irritating because you know that it can never.. NEVER be like that in real, and in the end you are left with some unanswered questions which ruined the film a bit..

Don't expect anything deep. This is a good popcorn flick and it has a good pace throughout. Quite enjoyable. It doesn't bring a lot of new elements to the storytelling process, but the puzzles are fun to watch and the dialogue is snappy. Basically, if you liked the first one, definitely see the second.

This certainly could have been a lot worse but the ridiculousness of it all is almost unforgivable given the "realistic" content. It's hard to fault National Treasure for the same things that make Indiana Jones so good, but it seems like the fact that Indiana Jones is nearly fantasy and National Treasure takes itself too seriously for what it is. Either way, Book of Secrets is basically as good as the first one, albeit less original, but entertaining to a degree.

Despite its expensive production values and mostly talented cast, "Secrets" feels completely effortless for a big studio film. Not to say its predecessor set a bar or anything, but this one barely contains any recognizable plot threading it together. If I went into all the reasons that this sequel doesn't work, I would only give away every plot detail of the movie. It moves at a slow pace, and the plot relies heavily on circumstance and consistently-flawless conclusions by its heroes.

A very mediocre experience. Book of Secrets is lacking in the action department until the final twenty minutes and the plot is just all over the place giving itself many plotholes to stumble into, most of which it does. Sometimes you get the feeling that it was somewhat rushed in places. I was never that fond of the original National Treasure anyway and this is pretty much more of the same, but with more flaws. At the end of the day, it's just a poor Indiana Jones wannabe.

Contradictions, inconsistencies, coincidences and miserably simple character relationships spoil a film that otherwise had some character and fun to it. Walking out and seeing an Indiana Jones poster didn't help it at all either especially after the snooze of a temple scene towards the end.

A very impressive sequel that sticks to the formula that made the original so loved. It may even surpass it. Once again little known truths combined with made up history create an exciting puzzle for Cage to unfold as he begins yet another dazzling treasure hunt.

I don't know a non-slasher sequel so close to a copy of its predecessor. This one even doubles down on the derivativeness with a villainous version of the Gateses. Except that part was kinda cool, a family whose heirlooms include earthshaking documents they keep from the rest of the earth. I mean, a fair number of prominent families probably possess files that could tip the balance of world power in some there's a TV show? with Catherine Zeta-Jones? does she dip beneath lasers?

A good movie to put in front of your eyes while you munch on popcorn. Indiana Jones light, with a couple of heists thrown in. What's not to like? I mean, besides the cringy hero-worshipping of American presidents past and future and Ben's motivation being all "I don't want my family's name besmirched!" as if they didn't probably have much worse baggage if he did a little digging. Definitely not a movie for our specific day and age. Also Ed Harris needed a more coherent story arch.

The basis for another exciting clue-following adventure feels forced this time around but the one here is still delightfully rambunctious (helped by another memorable Cage turn: "I'm going to kidnap the president of the United States"). Unfortunately, the repetitive bad guy has even shakier motives, and the sequel-version of sidekick Riley is no longer funny but whiny and annoying. Attempted additions to the first film's formula (see the marital woes of father and son) are less than engaging.

I enjoyed revisiting the characters in this sequel and found them just as exciting and humorous as the first time around. Families will find much to discuss in this film, from the assassination of Abraham Lincoln to the possibility of the President having a "book of secrets." Please note that there are many intense chase scenes involving gun shots and the characters find themselves in peril during the final stages of their hunt. Overall this is an enjoyable film.

So no matter what fans of R-rated shoot-'em-ups might say, exciting, engaging and imaginative action movies don't have to swim around with the sharks of excessive violence, obscene interjections and explicit sex. Oh yeah...it had a sequel. Well, despite some fun moments that I can remember, it certainly doesn't hold up to the standards the first one "set". Nick Cage is great, because he's Nick Cage. Everything else about the movie feels just too much like the first one. I will admit, I enjoy the National Treasure series, even if it's only because I'm still waiting for Indiana Jones to make a comeback. However, from a subjective standpoint, the plot is severely hampered by ridiculous clues and situations. In the world of National Treasure, Ben Gates is capable of solving everything with seemingly random and unrelated knowledge. A fun movie once the viewer suspends their belief far enough.

The puzzles are mildly fun and the movie's production design feels grander and more fitting than the original's. But the stakes are so low in this sequel it's tough to care about any of the action. The honour of Ben's family legacy has been called into question and, oh who gives a shit? The film can't even commit to having a villain, as Harris is slightly too redeemable to be dastardly. It's all preposterous, of course, but decidedly not bad. Just not terribly good either.

I'm still hoping for a third National Treasure, because the first two were pretty awesome. Love or hate Nic Cage, but his enthusiasm and child-like glee truly make these movies enjoyable.
