Mythica: A Quest for Heroes

No, I'm not kidding. "Mythica" may be a low budget, crowd-funded movie, but it shares the same blood as the classic fantasy novels. Sure, the effects, the acting, leave something to be desired, and it might even be a little derivative. But "Mythica" fills a void that very few fantasy movies do: it's medieval fantasy NOT written by Tolkien.

Ugh...can we go back to 4th edition, please? Maybe 13th Age or Dungeon World? I mean, I'll be back next week, but this rules set is basically garbage.

Poorly executed action scenes and b-list acting aside, Mythica: A Quest for Heroes is actually entertaining and all round good fun. Best to approach it from the perspective of the Gamers movies (also enjoyable) rather than LoTR or The Hobbit. That'll avoid unfair comparisons and circumvent potential disappointment.

Fantasy fans requiring big budget efx should probably look elsewhere bc a small budget's the main thing keeping this from being as good as it could be. If anything, the filmmakers deserve praise for spending cash on actual actors & just enough efx to look as good as a tv series. Kudos to director Black for doing a hell of a lot w/ a little. Script could've used improvements bc character bonds & developments happen too fast but that may be bc of running time needs. But the love for fantasy's here

Generic fantasy adventure.... and apparently they're making a trilogy out of it. Looked like a mid-budget TV adventure with poor looking action scenes, standard soundtrack and actors there more for their looks then their acting skills. Tries so hard to be a tribute to the more famous fantasy trilogies in recent times that they even hired someone that looked like the dwarf from The Hobbit!
