In a review that I wrote about this movie in 2001, I wrote that it's "utterly forgettable", which is true because when I came across that review, I said "What the? Mystery what? When did I see that?" Now I remember seeing it and also remember that it stunk big time.

The lack of hockey action and authenticity left critics cold.

Horrible overblown maudlin claptrap. The kind of a movie where a character has a heart attack in the middle of a heart-stirring speech.

Oh, look, it's another completely forgettable sports movie. I can't rank this among the worst of the worst but it's still pretty fucking terrible.

It really annoys me when they don't shoot these movies in Alaska. But have no problem dropping town names.

A fairly decent movie. It's labeled on here as a comedy, but I would hardly call most of the movie comedy. It's more of a drama. Pretty decent sports film still, though.

It's ok if you can manage to suspend the disbelief about a local town amateur hockey team not being absolutely destroyed and humiliated by an NHL team

Major Russell Crowe crush at this time! This was after LA Confidential, when he was the wounded bad boy hottie, but before Gladiator, when everybody discovered he's actually kind of a dick. The movie was OK - high marks for joining the slim ranks of the hockey flick.

It has a charm to it. The small town feel, the better than avg hockey footage, and the likeable leads. Although, for the life of me, why we need slow motion slapshots where goalies dive headfirst to make a save is beyond me. Overall it's too hacky to be anything beyond a guilty pleasure.

It's not great, but it's a good flick for a snowy day.

A good sports film. Great casting - Burt Reynolds is very good, Russell Crowe is inspirational, Mike Myers is clever, but I am intimidated by Hank Azaria's slimyness. To be fair, the pacing is slow and there is a lot of swearing. But if you can be patient, you will see a good hockey film. Not as good as "Miacle" but not as manipulative either.

Sports movies generally suck, since they all follow the exact same plot, and there's rarely tits or gore. This is no exception, it's utterly forgettable.

Pretty good drama/comedy film. Burt Reynolds proves he can still give a good performance.

Mike Myers as Don Cherry ALONE makes this film worthwhile. As sports films go it's a keeper... even the off-ice stuff is solid entertainment and there aren't too many moaners.

A nice feel good movie that pulls some small surprises & makes stereotypical characters slightly human. Fully prepared to hate this picture, it really shows how a decently crafted movie, even if nothing new, far outstrips a bogged down loser like Random Hearts.Takes too long to end.

This is probably what they think of when critics talk about a fun romp. Or something. Anyways, this is a good hockey movie, but it's odd they play up Gretzky as a member of the Rangers, and when the team shows up to play, none of them are real Rangers. No Gretzky, nobody. WTF? And Burt Reynolds is at his laziest here. He's the cliched crusty former played turned coach with a heart of gold blah blah blah. Still fun, though.
