Oh the boredom! Biopics are rarely engaging and this one is the worst I have seen. I don't care much about Monroe, but there must be more interesting stories from her life than a week with an impressively bland teenager.

I didn't think a film about Marilyn could be so unsexy -- the typical british visual approach, with its insistent editing remarks, makes it informative, but distant. Some good acting from Michelle and Brannagh, a cold directing by Curtis -- he seems interested and bored at the same time: this only could've been released by the Weinstein Company. Harvey/Bob love cinema, as long as they can get at least some Oscar nominations and hundreds of million dollars with their feelings -- or films.

Branagh's Olivier is a lot of fun, it's really a shame the story wasn't about him. We share his exasperation at Monroe's boring "Little girl lost"- routine, so when the second half of the film decides to focus on her akward relationship with an impressively boring young man things don't get more interesting, to say the least.

Williams, Branagh as well as the rest of the cast are excellent, but the film itself is only mildly amusing. The story with its limited dramatic centerpoint has a feeling of a BBC mini-series blown-up to the big screen.

Michelle Williams is simply mesmerizing. I was absolutely enchanted when I saw her on the screen very first time just like I saw Monroe on tv performing with Jane Russell in Gentlemen Prefers Blondes. We don't know Monroe actually, but I'm sure she'd enjoy Williams' real, believable and natural performance also. Kenneth Branagh is also just delightful and captivating as Laurence Oliver. However at some parts they both suffer the lack of space script gave them. In general a good memoir though.

In terms of story and structure, I feel like the movie deflates over the course of its runtime, starting at a brisk and entertaining clip and getting repetitive with Marilyn's freakouts by the time it enters its third act. But, that said, Michelle Williams is really, really, really, really good. Her best performance ever, in fact - she singlehandedly elevates the rest of the film.

It doesn't deviate far from the run-of-the-mill clichés of the romance genre, even being genuinely cringeworthy at points, and eventually becomes an average romantic drama that just happens to involve Marilyn Monroe. Whilst there was plenty of missed opportunity for some exploration of character and psychological depth, Michelle Williams is so (literally) mesmerizing as Monroe that you simply can't help but be captivated when she's on screen, and that's what really matters.

Really enjoyable film about nothing much, performed by well known actors at the top of their game. Williams, Dench and Branagh are terrific, but the whole thing seems more like a vehicle to display their talents than a story that needs to be told. Michelle Williams was simply outstanding and I defy anyone not to fall in love with her, which I suppose was the point of the story. I doubt this film really gives an insight into the complexity of Marilyn, but they captured her charm quite brilliantly

A true story about Sir Laurence Olivier's employee who ends up being Marilyn Monroe's trusted confidant during the movie "The Prince and the Showgirl". I loved the idea of this memoir being made into a film but sadly it didn't translate into being a really enjoyable movie. I felt like Michelle Williams was a spot-on Marilyn and deserved her Oscar nomination. It was also great to see Emma Watson in this but the film itself was too slow. It also really depicted Marilyn as a terror on set.

It takes little more than a scene of 'My Week with Marilyn' for Williams to have you forgetting you're not watching the real thing. It's not so much an impression, but an embodiment of a character. It all rings true, never feeling as though it's just a representation of what she "might do", but who she is. Every character changes in Marilyn's presence. Her aura makes men and women alike act like lovesick teenagers. Everyone on-screen is enchanted by Marilyn. In the theater, it's by Williams.

Interesting reviews, my fellow Critickers... Expecially some of you saying almost exactly what I said about 'THE QUEEN' those few years back. (CAMcleod) ...For me, Williams totally won me over! I came in with low expectations, and was delightfully surprised... Some added benefits was the attention to details in recreating the on-set atmosphere by all the Art Depts., and, an equally terrific portrayal of Olivier, by Kenneth Branaugh! Kudos!

Michelle Williams really embodies Marilyn perfectly. She shows the mixture of innocence, nervousness, and wild charisma that Marilyn always had and gives the story enough layers to make it interesting. Story-wise there's not that much happening here and I didn't felt entirely drawn to the story. I am not a huge fan of Eddie Redmayne, not because there's much wrong with his acting, but because I find him a bit boring with that constant neurotic angle that his characters seem to have.

The lone standout element in this is Williams' performance as Marilyn, which elevates it above mediocrity. While she often doesn't totally pull off the look, she is totally believable in the role and is pretty unrecognizable as herself. She fully inhabits the role. The plot isn't much (to the extent it even exists)--it's more character study than anything, and I found it quite a good one.

Feels like a school play. Echoes of Moulin Rouge. Source material comes from a fellow (the "hero") who appears to be quite an opportunistic little lech IRL, who's just as forgettable & irrelevant in the film. Story is false & editing/directing does nothing to substantiate it as fiction. Typical how this nobody asserts his relevance by inserting himself into her story, stealing her spotlight with his blandness, while the chemical basis for her mental state is ignored & she's made a fool of.

Portrays Monroe as an extremely hysterical, stupid and sexualized character. We know for a fact that she was much more than that in her personal life. I do not see how this film presents a unique perspective via a more "intimate" relationship. It feels much more like what Colin Clark was fantasizing about when he was jerking off to that one short week.

Pretty, visually, but unaffecting. Pauline Kael: "Monroe's breathy little-girl voice and polymorphous-perverse non-acting have a special mock-innocent charm that none of her imitators seem able to capture." Williams is no exception. One certainly feels for Monroe, thrust into a vipers' nest of Brits, for whom putting one in ones place is both a sport and a way of life. Perhaps inevitably, the only truly sympathetic character is the guy who wrote the memoir. And Judi Dench, who is fabulous.

The acting was superb, and Williams and Branagh deserve all the praise they got, but in terms of a biopic it's breadth of and depth of character examination is limited, and shallow, and maybe if this film had been expanded into a mini-series with for time for journeying into Marilyn's complex psyche would it have been superb.

William acts well but she doesn't resemble Marilyn THAT much. It doesn't really matter though; this film is not trying to tell Marilyn's story but only offer a glimpse to her life. Usually these UK financed / Weinstein co-productions are not my cup of tea but this one doesn't take itself too seriously. It's more about the mood than the plot.

A likeable, easy-to-watch movie with a gentle tone and pleasant 50s setting. A sweet dose of magical romance gives a sense of how captivating Marilyn must have been, while by no means stringing along the viewer emotionally. Needless to say, Michelle Williams is magnificent in the role and captures many facets of her character with 100% believability. The studio tension plot doesn't come to full fruition, but as a sort of coming-of-age fleeting-romance movie-set fame biopic, it delivers.

It took a while for me to figure out why I didn't like this film as much as I wanted to. It's the tone. It's just too light-hearted. Perhaps I just want a different film about Monroe altogether. The film was still pretty good. Michelle Williams was fantastic. I forgot that it wasn't Monroe a couple of times. The rest of the cast were great too. WIlliams really gets the flightiness and vulnerability of Monroe down very well. Unfortunately, the rest of the film feels very 'fluffy', with any dire circumstances quickly glossed over with a laugh and a bouncy soundtrack. Amusing, and certainly a feel-good film, but certainly not the deepest portrayal of Monroe that could be conducted. Branagh was very entertaining, too.

Wonderful evocation of the Olivier-Monroe pairing with Branagh and Williams equally capturing the elusive essences of their characters; it takes a lot of talent to convincingly capture such idiosyncratic originals as Monroe and Olivier to such a startling degree. Dench is terrific in support as Thorndike, and the film brilliantly captures the atmosphere of Pinewood in the 50s. Likely to appeal more depending on your relative interest in the period and people.

I get that this is based on the true story of a guy who met Marilyn Monroe on the set of a Laurence Olivier film. Still, there are certain parts of this film that ring false to me. Even if this isn't the most accurate portrayal of Marilyn Monroe, it does have a relevant story about the pressures and expectations we put on people in a celebrity-obsessed culture. Kenneth Branagh is quite good as Olivier, Judi Dench is delightful, but it is Michelle Williams who truly shines. She is phenomenal.

Its cliche and even slightly critical depiction of glamorous people's problems is trite; despite this it does good. Michelle Williams deserves the praise for her performance, for she really sells herself as the troubled Monroe - and that's how this should be viewed, as a story of the pain of a young man learning he can't fix broken people. The fast pacing sometimes suits it, sometimes not, but the slower second half feels more right.

Williams portrays Marilyn's innocence and fragility perfectly, and Branagh does a great job contrasting her quiet, hard-to-work-with demeanor as the engaging Olivier. It tells a wet-dream-story-turned-true from the perspective of a young film assistant at a time when Marilyn was near her peak in popularity. This in itself sounds like an incredible story, but the direction and telling of it was so modestly plain that it left me not caring.
