Tortured by the trailer for this for what seemed like two years before every movie I went to see when I close my eyes I’d see the Shrek wedding dance. Not once did the trailer hint at the insane wacky gay neighbour turned up to HELLLLOOO.

So, obviously a few movies come to mind. You're talking about The Pacifier with Vin Diesel and the Game Plan with the Rock - and plot-wise it feels a bit like Kindergarten Cop...but I'd argue that this one mostly doesn't feel that special. It feels BASICALLY how you'd imagine it feels like - which is a decent one-time viewing. Biased Score: 58% | Unbiased Score: 64% | Predicted: 67%

My Spy is a derivative product of the family-action-comedy genre, banking solely on Bautista's charisma. Coleman and Schaal are mildly annoying, but exacyly what you expect from a film like this. The situations often make your eyes-role, but occasionally push the joke far enough that you'll relinquish a chuckle. It is what it is, and good on the people who will enjoy it, but it's not really worth the time.

This was a disposable, forgettable, kids film that seems happy to wallow in the tropes of such films. It seems that every "action star" makes one of more of these at some point in their career. For what its worth my wife liked this quite a bit.

It struck me as crass and not in particularly good taste. This attempt at the “buddy comedy with a kid action hero” genre sadly seemed to have more in common with “Kick Ass” (thumbs down) than with the far more charming “Big Game” (thumbs up). The opening scene in Pripyat was hilarious, though! Movie overall had quite a few laughs, but even more grimacing. I’d probably have liked it more if it had been a cartoon.

Himbo Dad + Precocious Kid is a formula that can never fail, and this exceeds the default with charm and comedy to spare. Everything is silly, light, and fun - what a treat.

I thought it was going to be absolutely terrible after the opening scene, but it picked up a lot when Bautista meets the family and they start interacting more. It got a good amount of laughs out of me and I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Bautista needs to do some proper noir. Mike Hammer maybe? My Spy is horribly written with every scene stolen from some other movie and cheaply directed with clear befuddlement as to how to handle its schizoid genre shifts from family comedy to action flick to dour thank-you-for-your-service drama, etc.... It is sometimes funny and the 4 main players are great but are usually lost in a senseless and canned script.

Dude 1v1ed a plane with a knife, how can you hate on that? Questionable morals, shallow writing, and cringy army worship prevent this from being a great comedy, but it's a funny one nonetheless. Kind of a 2020 Last Action Hero in a way. Had fun!

I am more generous since it's a kid's movie. They might like it for the awkwardness. Personally, I thought Jackie Chan made a better spy babysitter years ago.

Though predictable this was a fun change of pace. I like Bautista in movies and this has good action and heart.

I like Bautista enough where this was fun. Very predictable but it got me through my plane ride.

Dave Bautista is just always fun, and this movie ended up being more enjoyable for me than I went in expecting. I actually didn't realize this was a PG-13 movie, which is pretty interesting considering it seems to be aimed towards kids, but I think that gives it something that feels a bit unique, and more memorable than it might have been otherwise. That being said, the story is of course predictable, but it's still fun.

I turned my brain off before watching and they were still batting under .500 on the jokes. Some laughs and endearing characters but completely unoriginal as expected.

It may be because I haven't seen The Pacifier, The Game Plan, Big Game or other movies of the plot vein of an adult hit-man alliancing with a kid (yeah, I've seen Léon, which is frikken AWESOME, but speaking of the comedy genre of the trope), I found this endearing. Bautista is so huge and scary, it's hilarious seeing him being taken like a ram on a leash by the little girl.

A saccharine spy movie full of cutesy moments but it did provide a few laughs. Good only if you are in the mood for a light-hearted family comedy with an implausible spy story wrapper. Chloe Coleman and Parisa Fitz-Henley were adorable. Dave Bautista seemed miscast. I liked Kristen Schaal. Ken Jeong stunk it up. Most of the action was unrealistic and obligatory, but not awful. Worth watching for a few laughs, but entirely forgettable.
