Peter O'Toole is immaculate; enough so to make up for how awful Mark Linn-Baker is. The story is fairly simple, but the writing is solid, the aesthetic is charming and I actually laughed at some of the gags. And the ending, even if fairly obvious, manages to feel perfectly satisfying. Essential viewing if you're a fan of O'Toole -- and, really, who isn't -- and even then a very worthwhile watch otherwise.

Very charming and funny movie. These '50s nostalgia pieces never mention Korea or McCarthy, but I don't mind the preservation of the good parts of that era

It isn't uproariously funny, but it has its moments. O'Toole is good.

Not a great story, but the writing and acting from O'Toole are above-average.

a fairly decent fictionalized version of errol flynn's appearance on a 50's sketch comedy show that pulls together a charming script and a handful of good laughs along the way to it's absolutely sensational climax. it can get a bit drab and underwhelming, yet always maintains a consistant watchability.

O'Toole was brilliant, as always.

A delightful evocation of 'fifties TV, and a grand vehicle for Peter O'Toole, who tears up the screen with relish (not to mention a good amount of ham!)

Peter O'Toole is excellent in this pleasant coming-of-age comedy.

The humor flops around a little in the beginning, seeing as they throw us right into the (highly dated) variety show. Most of the amusement comes from getting to know these characters later on. Some of the dramatic dialogue in the final third of the film is very on-the-nose as well. Otherwise it's a good, funny film.

A scene in the middle of this cracked me up when I was a teenager, but I've barely thought about it since.
