This film has a very odd tone, it's certainly not screwball comedy, which has to be the fault of Kanin as Grant, Dunne and Scott are all much better than that.

Wasted potential, I would have actually enjoyed this story if it had been a drama, but this cheap, unfunny comedy is just unbearable.

The timing and pacing on a lot of it seems off. Which is a shame cause it's a fun story and the actors are all fun to watch, so when it hits it hits really well.

At an hour and a half this is a half hour too long. Just talk to your wives, Cary.

I think I would have been a touch more of hysteric if my dead wife turned up on my honeymoon. But that's just me. We all can't be Cary Grant, all smooth and elegant in every situation. Even when his real life live-in "friend" Randolph Scott flirts with Irene Dunne right in front of him. That aside. A fine screwball'er with average script and a exceptional cast performing above the material.

It probably could have ended with the second civil court scene and would've felt much more concise, but the ending is worth it for the implication that Cary Grant and Irene Dunne are gonna get it on while he wears a Santa suit.

It's enjoyable, but not to be confused with that masterpiece, "The Awful Truth."

Cary Grant! Irene Dunne! Two of my favorite actors of that time! Need I say more? OK: Directed by Garson Kanin. It was a very daring film when it was released.
