Murphy's Law

An oddly jaunty and mildly sleazy slice of Cannon fodder, this isn't one of the studio's more famous products but it manages to bring the 80s pulp goods. Bronson is Bronson (perhaps even slightly more laconic than usual?), while Carrie Snodgrass makes for a surprisingly memorable psychotic villain and Kathleen Wilhoite brings a certain charm to her character's constant stream of baroque schoolyard insults ("monkey vomit"?). Gender studies majors could probably have some fun with this one.

Lifeless, bland, boring.

At the time, old men masquerading as action movie stars wasn't the standard, so Bronson was pretty joke-worthy by this point in his career. Still, he kept pumping them out, and even here, made some halfway decent movies here and there. Decent, but lukewarm, largely carried by the pretty entertaining back and forth zingers between Wilhoite and Bronson, an unlikely chemistry that just plain works.

Been rewatching a bunch of Bronson lately. This one could have been much better. A bit of a miss.
