A charming, utterly brilliant chick picture. A story of one young girl going from ugly duckling to swan that's kept light as a feather all the way by Hogan's usage of color and jaunty pop music. This movie's as good as "Dancing Queen"

Despite having some tragically dark elements, this movie is uplifting and "feel-good" in the best way. Collette and Griffiths are terrific actors and they bring this off so well. If only all "chick flicks" were as substantial and fulfilling as this one!

A film so unique in its style and tone, that I can't think of another film to compare. Have to love a film that lulls you into believing it's a comedy, then slowly starts pulling you into the darkness. Toni Collette stars and it is like, "oh, she was always great". Not a surprise, but it's just impressive when someone this young just destroys like this. All the supporting actors are also great. A film that just works in every aspect.

A surprisingly poignant exploration of self-identity and family that is infused with Aussie humour. Also a fun celebration of Australia's obsession with ABBA. Both Collette and Griffiths are very likeable and genuinely light up the screen.

Never quite feels real - almost like a fable based on all-too-real situations. Broadly comic but actually really quite a dark film and this makes it pretty funny and also messy and chaotic and it starts putting you on edge after a while. It's an emotional workout and it's well worth it.

Undeniably entertaining - if you don't enjoy this film, you're most likely a fuddy duddy.

A light-hearted, enjoyable enough comedy. Nothing particularly special, but Collette and Griffiths' performances gave it a lot of life and made it fun to watch.

From the start it seemed rather horrific but it did grow on me as Collette and Griffiths' strong performances gave the film a certain charm. It has both touching and funny moments and as a whole is reasonably enjoyable but not especially remarkable.

I haven't seen this flick in ages, but I remember Collette was very good and I liked the story much. Maybe one day I'll review it again. I should have an old VHS copy of it in somewhere in cellar.

Great fun, and I think it was the first time I had seen both Rachel Griffiths and Toni Collette. Porpoise Spit - genius.

And they were roommates (literally). Muriel's mom's subplot is the saddest to ever be put on screen.

A regarder absolument !

Just like other Aussie "classics" Sweetie and Petersen, this presents a horrendous central character in a positive and joyous light. Muriel is a self-centred dim-witted criminal with an obsession for the material things and not so much in other people -- sounds like this could've been a biting satire, but the film either doesn't know if it is or not, or simply pusses out at the end. The acting from all is terrific, so it's all wasted. "You're terrible, Muriel." Fucking oath!

a really fun movie, almost reminded me of a Todd Solondz film with how mean it could get. lost some points because things almost worked out a little too well.

I love to see the world through movies and I like those times when I don't quite understand the language or the nuances and this movie had a few of those moments. Muriel's Wedding was so funny but also really sweet. The characters in the movie are really fleshed out but I still want to know more about them. The ending of the movie was so satisfying. Most American movies like this would have a stunning actress play the dud and then take off her glasses. I like this take on that formula.

It's laboriously quirky, but career-launching performances by Toni Collette and Rachel Griffiths make Muriel's Wedding work.

Enjoyable comedy drama , which seems dated now. Good performances and some poignant moments but it is the colour, music and 1990's feel that gives it charm.

Funny Australian film. Sometimes it's silly. There were some scenes that saddened me. It's so sad how they made fun of Muriel.

Clearly you should only see this if you are a girl and sometimes hate yourself and also have an affinity for Australia and ridiculous behaviour. Then you can love it and everyone else can go jump off a cliff. So there Muriel's Wedding haters.

YTS.
