Mrs. Laura Henderson (Dench) may be a widow but she is by no means going to spend the rest of her days playing bridge. The Windmill Theater becomes ger game and the infamous showman Vivian Van Dam (Hoskins) becomes her partner and fiercest opponent. The Germans are bombing London but the roar of the Windmill is all that can be heard as Laura convinces Lord Cromer (Guest) to allow her actresses to be the one thing no one could ever imagine: Nude. Brought to its knees by war, what Mrs. Henderson Presents brings a nation to its feet in applause. (The Weinstein Company)

A charming little film. The screenplay loses momentum in the third act, but it's still a highly enjoyable ride.

A nice, mild diversion. But it seems oddly disconnected to the historical context it's set in...

If it weren't for excellent Dench and Hoskins, it would be utterly forgettable.

Enjoyable fairly light story that's told in a straightforward, easy viewing manner

An interesting movie about a theater in England during WWII struggling to keep the doors open. They had to improvise, and that improvisation was to display semi nude women. However, to meet the moral requirements the nudity had to represent art, so the women had to remain still. Performances were good, but the story was not always particularly interesting. A few extra points for beautiful nude women.

Likeable and quite enjoyable, who knew Judi.D had that in her; add in a B.Hoskins that plays off her well and some nice Kelly.R-posturing, and this's pleasant enough. *Preview*: #13#, exp-3*, story, reviews, (director Frears/1), Kelly.R/6, R2.

"I'm tempted to borrow one of Mrs. Henderson's lines and call the film a "frivolous distraction" except a "frivolous Oscar bid" is more like it." - Ed Gonzalez

Likable but nothing special, even with the nude tableaux. Bob Hoskins and Judy Dench are kinda cut together.

A charming film about an unexpected subject. As much about the relationship between Dench and Hoskins characters as the Windmill theatre this is touching, funny and well shot. A great story with real pathos. Under rated

Not bad, but not very effective either.

Judi Dench is a riot here, although the film itself runs out of steam about halfway through.
