Mr. Plinkett's the Star Wars Awakens Review

Not on the same level as his prequel reviews (it's less focused and has a lot less replay value), but still worth a watch if you're a fan.

A lot less funny than the prequel reviews but still pretty decent. Much less about the movie itself than the universe it's starting and soft reboots in general.

More like an erudite analysis of the whole Star Wars phenomena and modern Hollywoods trends in general than a focussed movie review but brings a clear headed cynicism to the topic alongside the nerdy fan sentiment. Rambling and broad but interesting and well articulated. Not as funny as the previous episodes. Feels kinda encumbered by the whole comedy concept for the first time.

Uses broader brush strokes on the movie industry in general and actually proves rather interesting as a critique. The humour element seems a bit tired and in some ways that's okay as the concepts and critiques explored are strong enough without them. The summary of what The Force Awakens could've been if it wasn't a soft reboot left me hungry for a Mr Plinkett Star Wars script.

Starts off strong but then he goes on tangents about barely relevant crap and only the last thirty minutes are actually about the movie. Did we really need to see a 20-30 minute tangent about how the ring theory was stupid or for him to reiterate the merchandising aspect of Star Wars? I also thought his criticisms weren't all that great - why didn't he criticize the mary sue nature of Rey? I also don't care for his argument on sex either.

The time spent on the ring theory was wasted comedy but it's a decent refrain of the superior Plinkett reviews.

This is unfocused in a way that the older reviews never were, boy is that a weird sentence to type. The Hollywood business aspects of this review work and some of the fanbase analysis/reaction really does not. The concept of Plinkett taking on less film-oriented criticisms of Hollywood productions and more Hollywood as a business is a clever concept but it needs to be done more thoroughly than in this. Still very entertaining at the least.
