Not a great movie by any stretch but there's something about this particular era that's like wrapping myself in a crocheted blanket on a rainy Saturday afternoon -- just an overwhelming sense of comfort and nostalgia for the period, I 'spose. Can't believe it's taken 36 years for me to see this as I know it was an HBO staple for about a decade. Keaton is, as usual, awesome. Hey, kid characters who aren't self-aware, smug and/or total dicks! Didn't think it was possible. I miss you, early '80s.

These unbelievable role-swapping movies about how a woman earns money and a man does all the housework belies the great American mantra that a woman's place is in the home. What's worse is that they actually show a woman succeeding at a man's job. This just will not do. This movie advances the stereotype that women are just as good as men, which, after watching the teen-choice awards, is preposterous.

If you are a fan of the "too much soap in the washing machine" joke, this is your movie.

The movie that set out to combat traditional gender roles, but unflinchingly conceded to them in the title. Actually, it's not a bad movie. Not a good one either, just right there in better-than-mediocrity town. Keaton was still likable at this point.

This film is dated but Michael Keaton does bring charm to the lead role. The script has a few funny moments but it is mostly predictable and the ending seems very forced. Overall this film is disappointing.

A reminder of the days when genuine low-middle class folks could turn up as the subject of light comedies without being portrayed as rednecks from hell – those who would criticise this for its sitcom trappings are missing the point: this is designed as a genial, goofball sitcom and it works well on that level, with Keaton and Garr bringing a nice freshness and “normalcy” to their characters and situations, backed by a fine support cast highlighted by an always enjoyably smarmy Mull.

This actually made me laugh a decent amount and then I realized it's a John Hughes screenplay, so of course it did. Hughes had this uncanny ability to be both dated and timeless at the same time. And it's clear why he started sitting in the director's chair after this because much of this one's issues stem from the director, who clearly didn't have a clear understanding of how to frame and block for a Hughes comedy. Some of this is so awkward it feels like an SNL sketch. But Keaton is very fun.

I was more interested in watching the old household products and seeing how brown and crusty everything is than by what the plot turned into.

Kinda dated but Michael Keaton and Teri Garr are charming. He should've kept the beard

In the last forty years a comedy centered on sex and gender roles has lost a little of its oomph. Within the context of time, "Mr. Mom" was fairly progressive, and most importantly, funny, and entertaining.

There are a few laughs here, and the leads are strong, but the movie feels manufactured, lightweight, inconsequential, and forgettable.

Keaton makes the general screwball goofiness work. Plenty of chuckles at some of the physical comedy and references/spoofs of Jaws, Rocky etc.

Ok, here's the pitch: What if you had a mom, who gets a job, and the DAD has to take care of the kids? Wild right? I mean imagine a MAN in a grocery store! I bet he couldn't even push a shopping cart! How much laundry detergent would he use!!! AHHHH! There are films made 40 years prior to this that have premises that have aged better. All that being said, this Hughes written comedy is still pretty harmless fun. It could have been way more misogynistic than it is and with far fewer laughs.

Very modern for 80's mainstream comedy, that feels very dated now. Didn't hate it, but somehow feels like a pointless experience.

An okay '80s gimmick/fluff film. A good start for John Hughes, but he had much better movies in the following years.

It's not a great film, but there a couple of moments in this film that always make me giggle. The "big race" is too bizarre to think this kind of thing probably did happen in the early eighties corporate world.
