Of all the melon farmers I know, Mr. Majestyk is by far the coolest.

One of my favorite Bronson films. He will not allow his watermelons to be messed with.

Yet another solid Bronson film. This one is from the 70's and he's not yet as bulletproof or one-note as in latter Cannon films. There's even a believable romance with Linda Cristal's character. Elmore Leonard's script ensures tough dialogue and interesting characters like Lettieri's bad guy who just can't let go of his revenge and Koslo's local crook who gets over his head. Fleischer's direction is competent; there are some nice chase sequences and the film benefits from the Colorado locations.

Having read a couple of Leonard novels, I have to assume a big part of why this works so well is his writing. I've never seen a novelist edit himself so ruthlessly. Not a word is wasted w/ all of them designed to get to the point & generate a compelling narrative. This is a cinematic version of that & even though action sequences have become pricier there are surprisingly great car chase scenes here. The end is slightly anti-climactic, but this is underrated. A simple but carefully-designed plot

A must watch for Bronson enthusiasts, and a decent story from one of the greats. If you have any desire to continue to draw breath and you run into Charles Bronson remember this: you do not fuck with his wife, his daughter, or his melons--most importantly his melons.

Standard story line for the genre and time period, carried to above average only by the idea that Bronson really would be this way in real life.

Charles Bronson looks like he is having a great time in the lead role. There are several exciting scenes in this movie. Bronson is made for the lead role, the whole picture depends on him.

It's a shame that Bronson made mostly mediocre films because he had more talent than he was generally given credit for in his time, and he was certainly a better actor than the Seagal's of this world. Mr.Majestyk is supposedly one of his better films, but it's really a bog standard run of the mill period actioner with a slow pace and a lack of fireworks; and it's 'gritty' without ever being terribly realistic, which is another hallmark of 70's action films.

They just don't make nice flicks with a tougher-than-anyone-else character like this anymore.
