Mother's Day

Follows the typical rape-and-revenge formula, but this time the rapists' mother runs the show! Boy howdy, if that don't beat all! Weird and pretty bad, but I can't say I was bored.

Basically a second grade "I Spit on Your Grave," which is third grade at best.

The new Joe Bob season is finally here. There are a couple of effective sequences: sneaking through the house and the rope cutting through her hands. Not much reason to watch this film on its own otherwise.

Crude and sleazy, some of the black humor is amusing, though it doesn't really cut very deep (consumer and pop culture references within the morbid context aren't all THAT witty). It's more interesting than an average slasher, though, so I'll give it that.

Starts promisingly with a pretty funny est spoof (anticipating ALONE IN THE DARK's swipes at psychiatry) before rapidly cycling through a number of other targets with varying degrees of success (the bad boyfriend stuff is good). Once the girls get captured, it's all but interminable. Save for spotting the seeming influence on Errol Childress's pad.

Sadly this movie is a fucked up mess.

Dia das Mães Macabro estreava há 40 anos nos EUA. *Freud intensifies* Esperava um outro tipo de filme, do tipo que uma mãe assassina saísse matando, mas como usual é o velho clichê de homens matando por "influência" da mãe, o que torna o filme mais do mesmo. O que é bom mesmo é quando as mulheres resolvem se vingar, mas aí já é tarde demais e o filme acaba logo, ou seja, outro filme para alimentar a misoginia masculina com longas cenas de tortura. Surprisingly effective little horror film. I went into this expecting it to be complete trash and while it wasn't good in a technical or traditional way it still managed to work. There was some suspense and horror most of it worked because of two of the ladies performances and a couple of tense scenes.

For a rape-and-revenge hicksploitation B-movie brought to you by Troma, this surprisingly ends up kind of entertaining. Entertaining in that odd mixed-bag of genuine uncomfortable sleaze and quirky dark humor that Troma can be really hit and miss with sometimes. Despite not being the sharpest hicksploitation rape-an-revenge B-moive, or really that funny just as a black comedy, the whole thing comes together to make for an interesting enough watch for fans of the genre with low expectations.

Good damn it Ebay, I accidently bought the German dubbed version. They cut the opening scene, the crotch violence and the rape scene.

It's not as high-profile as some of the others, so I was late to discover it, but Mother's Day is one of the last great hillbilly horror movies that dominated the 1970s. The shoestring budget shows, and it doesn't manage to wholly escape amateurishness (the synth soundtrack in particular is distractingly silly), but Charles (not the Being John Malkovich guy) Kaufman gallantly resists falling back on the easy juvenile farce of later Troma releases. Mother's Day really is quite scary.

Horrible. Rape, murder, mayhem. Will give you nightmares.

this movie is crazy. it's not very scary and there are alot of scenes that are actually amusing, but I did get a kick out of it and I must say it's worth a gander.
