Typical Soviet fare which unfortunately didn't work for me. Gave up midway.

Intriguing look at the daily life of normal people in the Soviet Union. Occasionally weighed down by the cheesiness of its music and the mundane visual approach. Interestingly, the first half is more restrained and impressive in this regard. Having said that, I admittedly watched the second half of this movie first, because my professor decided only the second half was worth seeing, so I caught up with the first half later on.

This is a pleasant and well-made drama. The script and the ensemble of performances are the standout elements. It's a good example of how far well-written characters can take you, even if your film is not epic in scope. The film shows a lot about life in the Soviet Union and challenges some preconceptions, while also delivering messages about independent women and late love. Enjoyable and well-acted with some memorable scenes.

Very sharp picture of time. Two leading ladies (Irina and Vera) are a perfect pair. Aleksey is also pretty good in his part. Second act starts a bit slow but gets better later. The first act is brilliant. BTW, the director acted later in Night Watch movies.
