I have an enthusiasm for this one that borders on the irrational. Vibrant is the word that describes it best--music, colors, and family explode on the screen, giving a sense of the rich and varied backgrounds and traditions that under gird these people. The character of the father makes the film, as his passion for his family clearly drives the joy they have in one another.

This is about a country on the brink of a new era, becoming a global power with global interests, while also clinging desperately to the traditions that make it what it is. Yes, even if you just take the film at face value like the other matrimonial comedies, it's cute, it's lively, it's fun. Monsoon Wedding gives you what you seek and expect, but more -- something to think about and discuss long afterwards.

Effervescent comedy that never degenerates into a farce thanks to the expert direction by Mira Nair. Stretches of delightful hilarity are tempered by moments of poignancy that keep the movie balanced and enjoyable.

As an introvert, I found this seeming-decades-long wedding festivities to be exhausting. I guess in every culture people look for any excuse to party. Otherwise, it's a nice little family drama with a decent soundtrack. I know one can't solve all the world's problems in a two-hour movie, but a few of those plotlines really deserved a little more time than what they were given.

BlurayRip EbP.

It was probably the firsts of multiple movies Mira Nair did. Strange story. Very explicit. Could have been better.

The two monsoons. A deluge of chaos around wedding planning, financial burden, currents of tension and resentment, a few dark secrets. And then the literal downpour, a release from pressure and anxiety. A celebration of love, jubilation. What a warm and exuberant family portrait.

Hard to tell, since I have absolutely zero exposure to Indian culture, how much this is one of those movies that panders to Western audiences. At any rate it did Love Actually better than Love Actually and it was miles ahead of the dumpster fire that is Crazy Rich Asians.

Much too ramshackle family comedy lacks any sense of discipline or cohesion, introducing too many characters and tying them up in increasingly confusing knots. Beautifully shot, however, with some nice moments mainly courtesy of Shah as the frustrated father.

çok samimi ama yavşak olmayan bir film ki bunu böyle bir senaryoyla başarmak zor.

Visually intriguing but the storyline can get a tad chaotic with subplots jumping in and out of the limelight.

The movie is a very nice. It portrays the chaos surrounded with a wedding in very good way and at the same time touches an important issue which is prevalent in India (being sexual child abuse). The acting, story, script and screenplay were good. The fin of the movie would be Shefali Shetty and Vijay Raaz, both gave a very good performance. Its a perfect blend of modern India and its traditions which come out during weddings. Very colorful movie that one and all can see. and be entertained.

It's an American romantic comedy set in India. You're not fooling me, movie. I'd fuck that fat cousin though.

A beautiful, well thought out movie about the chaos surrounding a wedding, which I've personally witnessed several times, and boy does this film get it right. I loved this film from the first time I saw it in a class. If you have not seen it then, your in luck cause criterion just released it so it should be easy to find. A colorful study of Indian modern culture clashing with traditional. Highly recommended.

Yes, this is fairly lightweight stuff, not breaking any new ground, rather formulaic, and all conflicts are easily wrapped up in minutes. But it's a very fine feel-good movie, with some charming performances, catchy music, amusing situations, colorful art direction and some heart. Is it a filmic masterpiece? No, but it's not a blight on the world of cinema either. I enjoyed it.

Talks about an important issue.. that is rarely talked about in media in India: sexual abuse of children (and for that alone deserves praise). The acting, direction was good - though not as powerful as one might expect of a Mira nair. The guilt, disgust and how it tears apart the lives of the people involved are all portrayed well with enough subtlety. Good film.

This film could be slightly unusual for the average western viewer, but it's nevertheless a wonderful feature, with a realistic story, a heart-warming atmosphere and some very funny moments.
