A slow, soft and gentle direction for a touching movie, with lost of symbolism. Would have gotten a high score if it were not for an abstruse ending.

The film's successful execution in portraying the trans experience, combined with the outstanding performances of the cast, particularly Trace Lysette, warrants high praise. "Monica" it's remarkable, its powerful narrative, groundbreaking representation, and the notable performances of its cast.

It’s a shame this didn't get a wider release. It’s such an important movie, one that I walked away from feeling moved but genuinely more informed as well. It does feel long, but I thought all of the scenes and limited use of dialogue elevated the movie. It’s been show-don’t-tell, in the best way possible. Lysette is genuinely great, and I enjoyed the supporting cast pretty well too. Not at all the movie I was expecting, but it was still a great movie and a great character piece. Don’t miss this!
