Ship captain and weapons distributor Harry Baur gets into trouble in Shanghai and has to return home to his estranged family. It's mostly Shanghai and the dirty dealings going on there. A fine rotten story, but not as dirty and exciting as it should have been. To me the surroundings and staging was too simple to really capture the essential emotions of such a story. But I'm not going to claim it was a bad try. Baur is an quality actor, and when he comes home and loses his dignity he commands!
