The desperate scramble for another plot twist, and another even more shocking plot twist, and another even MORE shocking plot really drives this one into the ground. It becomes absurd unintentional comedy by the end.

In a land of drugs and lawlessness, one man stands for truth, justice, and the ninja way. Javier must aid an ignorant technophile American teenager in the rescue of her mother. Will he succeed!? Or will the nefarious sperm donor get his way!?

I love the screenlife gimmick, and while it falls victim to straining in order to keep it on the screen, I'm okay with it. Maybe this is a me problem, but this was chugging along, an 80/100, Kevin was an interesting mystery and then June's mother was an interesting mystery, and it was all very Searching-lite in its quality (that's fine).. and then the final twist happened and the rest of the movie went downhill. Just a boring, common plot thread. But the rest of it is really tense and emotional.

Incredibly far-fetched from the jump (a teen has five *consecutive* ragers at her mom's house?), MISSING must be admired for plowing through an entire streaming season's worth of true crime twists in less than two hours. There's something to be said for a movie that's clichéd but never boring.

As a sequel to Searching, it’s mostly more of the same. This works for the most part despite not being quite as fresh, although the plot twists in the third act get pretty goofy by the time we reach the last one.

While being able to stretch the "storytelling through computer screen" gimmick into two feature films is commendable, Missing, like its predecessor, suffers from some severe contrivances in its sleuthing to move the plot forward.

A pretty successful follow-up to the equally fun Searching. The plot does get a little out there, but all in all they pull it off.

This is a good film in a way - it's fairly gripping at certain key points in the plot. However, it doesn't feel so much like a film per se, more like a sort of a long documentary film about technology, or a reality TV show of some sort. Its interesting to see how people can track and trace others from a screen but there were some dullish moments and the ending? ehhh...you may feel a little short changed by the ultimate outcome, that'll all I'll say. There are some plot twists, certainly.

Started this movie scoffing how uninspired and stupid the setup is, already having some dumb modern facecam and screenshare movies like Searching on my palmares, but just like the addictive apps that function as devices in the story it lured me in and i couldn't quit. It's undeniable that every gadget and 2023 technology is utilized in a pretty smart way (if not sometimes contrived) and it even manages to be little reflective on what kind of an online world we have created for ourselves

Less interesting than the first with how it uses the medium (also stretches the believability of the tech pov to its breaking point [like most found footage POV movies]) , but the way they’re able to make one of the most kinetic thrillers out of a chick clicking on her laptop is wild.

This movie started really good but was a couple tiers below “Searching” and felt majorly copycat. The main character did not impress me in her acting range and actually got me so annoyed I stopped watching the ending payoff. The formula for these movies: twist x11, rush ending is a bit much.

Started off feeling like it was borrowing too much from its predecessor by repeating the whole parent dying, child pulling away from the surviving parent dynamic, but the film luckily distinguished itself enough in other areas. The editing was far more stylized, which could have hampered the sense of realism but ultimately worked, and I loved how far this one skewed into horror territory. Searching was more emotional, but Missing compensates with more thrills and a much-welcomed creep factor.

Searching'ten bence bir tık daha iyi olmuş. Basit gibi görünse de muazzam bir kurgusu var. Son ana kadar ilgi ile izleniyor.

The whole Colombian plot didn't matter, they tried to force 4 different and pitiful plot twists, and the movie was so oversaturated with screen recordings its extremely annoying.

I’m not exactly sure why this one didn’t work as well for me as Searching. I guess I didn’t get as emotionally invested in the mystery and outcome as the other movie, plus I didn’t like the lead as much in this one. It’s a cool gimmick and there’s clearly a lot of effort put into it, but I wasn’t left as impressed on Missing as much as Searching. Maybe it was too long?

The completely screen-captured plot device mostly works, minus a few suspensions of belief (June finds the most helpful gig worker ever in Colombia,) but it does drag once the film moves into more melodramatic suspense territory. The film is at its best with June trying to solve her mother's disappearance thousands of miles away with her limited resources and it's still an exciting ride, although the ending is a bit of a letdown.

I had no idea going in that this was basically a sequel to Searching, a movie I enjoyed quite a bit. The style was a dead ringer, the mystery was overly complicated but engaging, and I enjoyed the ride. It was definitely not as good or fresh as Searching, but any mystery fan should check out Missing.

Starts fairly well but fails to deliver on the premise, trying your patience so much towards the yawn-inducingly unoriginal climax that you couldn’t care less what happens or which character dies. The gimmicky tech-sleuthing visual editing approach works but gets a tad tiresome and will have dated this movie incredibly in a few short years. If they’d spent more time and effort writing an intelligent, involving plot rather than just an endless string of twists it might have been a better film.

Much better than I thought it’d be. It would rank higher if I didn’t hate the concept in general principle.

Really cool and weird desktop thriller brilliantly led by Reid. It gets uninteresting as the film slowly leaves Junebug's own investigation and enters a more traditional true crime narrative, but the overall result is still positive.

Missing is a real rollercoaster of a film. The initial 15 minute setup made me hesitant but the 1st twist had me along for the ride. Like Searching (2018), the screen-capture aesthetic is done well and works because the onscreen actions are so familiar. The twist leading into the 3rd act was both farfetched and a bit disappointing with how everything plays out. Reid does a great job leading the film, with some decent support from Almeida. The heavier use of Apple products wasn't great either.

A well made movie from beginning to end. It uses technology, internet rumors and the modern way of life to perfection. It relies heavily on the screen gimmick but it works. The younger generations are attached to their phones sharing every aspect of their lives with the world. The cast does a great job creating the tension most notably Storm Reid who does the heavy lifting here. Solid myster through out, with a big twist that I did not see coming. Well done.

This is worth watching if you're a fan of "Searching". I liked that one a little more as the story wasn't as far fetched, but I enjoyed the mystery and associated tech sleuthing to see where things went. Enjoyable 6.6 for me

"Missing" tries to wear many hats – it's a family drama, a cyber-thriller, a crime mystery – and ends up slightly askew in all. Its heart is in the right place, but it could have done with a bit more grounding in reality.

If you absolutely need something else like Searching, I guess this is an okay follow-up. It didn't do much for me, probably because the entire scenario is so absurd.

"Missing" is an exciting and overall fun experience that also serves as a time capsule for how we communicate and stay connected. It is quite the ride and deserves to be seen in a packed theater and is a great and welcomed addition to the world of "Searching."

I was not expecting too much about this. Sequels to a gimmicky movie generally become less clever with each sequel, right? But I was wrong about this one. By introducing a much younger protagonist, this sequel exploits modern technology better than its predecessor, while still keeping a strong plot to support its gimmicks. There were a few points where it gave me the really good creeps.

Maybe its just the binary nature of the digital platform(s) these movies unfold on but there is such a satisfying, exacting *click* to the twists and reveals of these films. Part of me registers the novelty wearing thin, but I've been all in for both outings.
